Ch 1: Once a Legend

"Now when he's returned to his original time, he will have no memory of his displacement." Rip explained to the group.

"Or seeing any of us out of costume." Clarity added. "You know like we were always supposed to do on missions but never did cause we didn't have the man power."

"All humility aside, we are the most important security organization," Rip lowered his voice to a whisper. "That no one's ever heard of."

"Plus being a secret agent, is pretty cool. Not that I can tell anyone. But if I could," Clarity smiled to herself. "All the things I wanted to be as a little kid. Secret agent never made the list. I'm actually really good at it. It's good working here."

"So good working for an organization who somehow missed the fact that Julius Caesar is down in Aruba working on his tan." Nate looked to her Rip turned sharply on his heel.

"I'm sure our detection system would have picked up on his displacement." Rip insisted.

"Yeah, and we get that, but all we're saying is, if you wanted to give us the old Waverider back, we would be happy to go down there and take care of it for you." Sara suggested to Rip.

"Yeah, you know, for For old time's sake?" Ray smiled.

"That's not going to happen guys..." Clarity winced.

"What? Why not!?" Nate complained.

"Well...for one...gideon's with me now. So it doesn't currently have an operating system." Clarity held up her watch. "And two..." she looked to Rip unsure how to break the news.

"I'm sorry," Rip told them. "but our old ship has been put to new use."

"This way everyone. You'll see what he means." Clarity smiled leading the way to the bridge.

"You turned our ship into a simulator?" Sara objected as she saw the simulation running.

"The waverider is smaller than other time bureau ships. It's easier for cadets to handle in times of stress. So they can practice here in the meantime and upgrade to the real thing upon completion of orientation and other training programs." Clarity explained. "It's actually pretty smart if you ask me."

"The Command Module is heading toward a meteoroid belt." A cadet off to the side informed.

"Apollo 13 astronauts will die unless we do something." Another cadet reiterated.

"Aw, that's cool, man." Nate smiled hands on his hips. "They're teaching one of our old missions."

"I've got an idea. Why don't we swing around and use our ship as a shield?" The captain suggested.

"Boom." Nate and Ray fist pumped and Sara threw out her arms in a bow but the smile was quick to fall from her face as the girl kept talking.

"Kidding." The girl playing captain scoffed. "I'm not a total idiot. Target the Command Module's oxygen tank with our photons, and fire."

"Yes!" A cadet boy cheered.

"The ruptured tank propelled their capsule out of harm's way, Captain." Another cadet informed. A flashing green success button lighting up the screen.

"Well done, class. See you all tomorrow." A man advised as he entered. "We'll see how you do trying to stop an atomic torpedo from blowing up New York City."

"But remember!" Clarity spoke up. "Things can be a lot simpler in hindsight than when your actually in a life or death situation. On this mission there were more things to worry about than just Apollo. With limited resources there was a man trapped on the moon and another field team running interference on the ground. Thinking under pressure is no easy task. How do you think you'd perform without proper training and having done this very simulation 10 times?"
