After leaving Tucker's large office, I found my way to the lower part of the warehouse where Tilly and Ben were standing with Jacob. Finding them had been easy, not because of my excellent detective skills, but because Ben and Jacob were practically yelling at each other.

"Well, maybe if you had better security protocols, attacks and shit like this wouldn't happen!"

Ben's admonishment of the bigger and tougher looking young man was causing a scene. Tilly looked like she wanted to jump into the fridge that she was leaning against as other werewolves craned their heads to see who was yelling at a high-ranking member. Jacob, however, did not seem to notice and stared back at Ben fuming. The other boy loomed largely over my best friend and crossed his arms, forcing large muscles to strain in his arms.

Nobody seemed to notice my arrival.

"If Tucker thought you could do a better job, he would've asked you. You're a kid, Ben, nobody expects you to understand stuff like this."

This, while Jacob's voice seemed placating, only enraged Ben further. He took a step forward, inches shorter than Jacob, but still commanding just as much attention.

"Don't you ever," he whispered lowly, "call me a kid again."

Even Jacob seemed to hold his breath at Ben's tone. I'd never heard him use anything like it. I caught Tilly's attention and raised my eyebrows trying to mime 'what the actual fuck' with my face. She puffed up her cheeks and blew out a long breath in response. Neither of us seemed to know what to make of Ben's sudden aggressiveness.

"Stay out of my way, Benjamin," Jacob eventually responded with an air of superiority, "I won't ask again."

With that, Jacob stalked away, brushing Ben's shoulder as he passed. Both boys seemed to stiffen at the contact.

In anger, Ben ripped open the door to the fridge and pulled out a cucumber. Noticing what he'd grabbed, he shoved the vegetable back in and grabbed a water bottle.

"I dunno," I said, and his head whipped up at my voice, "I think the cucumber would be better to beat him with."

Almost despite himself, Ben let out a short laugh.

"Yeah, I think there's a watermelon in there. I could drop that on his head," Tilly suggested helpfully.

I raised an eyebrow. "You werewolves are a healthy bunch."

I pushed myself into a seated position on the metal counter next to the fridge. This section of the warehouse seemed to be a dedicated cafeteria and kitchen portion with long tables and a fully stocked fridge and pantry.

"I mean," Ben looked at me, "if you want to try some creepy Daemon stuff or," he looked at Tilly, "some witchy voodoo that makes his eyebrows grow fungus, I wouldn't say no."
