GENERAL RUBRICS (Read the first 8 to 10 chapters)
1. Cover and Title: 10 >> Judge the cover's ability to capture attention and create intrigue. Assess the cover's alignment with the book's genre, tone, and content. Evaluate the overall design, quality, and aesthetic appeal of the cover.
2. Blurb: 5 >> Assess how well the blurb summarizes the essence of the story.
>> Determine the blurb's ability to captivate readers and generate interest.
>> Evaluate the blurb's uniqueness and ability to stand out.
3. Opening Chapter: 15 >> Does the writer engage the reader's attention immediately? >> Is tone, setting and character established quickly?
4. Characterization: 10 >> Are characters believable, and well-rounded? >> Are Actions and interactions consistent and well-motivated? >> Evaluate the depth and complexity of the characters throughout the story.
>> Assess how well the characters connect with the reader on an emotional level.
5. Plot: 20 >> Does progression seem inevitable without being too predictable? >> Is the story interesting and compelling to read?
>> Assess the organization and pacing of the plot, including the introduction, rising action, climax, and resolution
>> Determine the level of innovation and freshness in the plotline
>> Evaluate the logical flow and consistency of the plot's events.
6. Style and Description: 15 >> Is writing fresh and free of cliches? >> Does it reveal the writer's own vision and attitude clearly? >> Are viewpoint changes and pacing handled smoothly? 7. Literary Devices: 10 8. Mechanics: 10 >> Are the word limit and the pace of the plot accurate? >> Are the spellings accurate? >> Is the manuscript professionally prepared? >> Are historical details consistent and correct?
9. Length of chapters: 10 10. Grammar and Punctuation: 15
11. Message: 10 >> Assess how well the theme is explored within the narrative and its importance to the story. >> Determine the originality of the message.
12. Enjoyment and Overall Impression: 20 >> Assess the overall engagement and captivation the book provides. >> Determine the lasting impact the book has on the reader. >> Evaluate how well all the elements of the book come together to create a cohesive reading experience.
