CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN; HIDDEN AFFECTION

i can't believe i ever thought you were a hufflepuff.

SHE WAS SAT IN DEFENSE AGAINST THE DARK ARTS, a subject that she had no troubles with. She knew most of the stuff they were doing this year anyways, so she wasn't really paying attention. Just enough to make sure Snape couldn't call her out on it.

"Leah?" She heard a whisper come from behind her, causing her to turn around nonchalantly, looking at whoever had called out to her curiously. A smile playing on her lips as she saw who it was.

"Yes Draco?"

"What's the answer to question four?" He asked quietly, seemingly slightly embarrassed at the fact that he had to ask in the first place. Leah groaned and shook her head, her expression serious as she raised an eyebrow.

"There are questions?" He snickered briefly, trying to hide it by coughing, but failing.

"Mr Malfoy." Snape interrupted his fit of laughter, his stone-cold expression far from amused. "-Care to tell us what you find funny about jinxes?" Leah tried desperately to compose herself as she turned back to the parchment in front of her, clearing her throat to hide a giggle.

"N-No Sir. My apologies. I just came across something that humoured me, is all." Draco replied back, as politely as possible.

"And that was?" Leah sometimes wondered how it was possible for someone to have such a deep, drawn out voice. A voice like Snape's was one that wasn't found often. In fact, she'd only once heard one that came close, and it was from an alcoholic chainsmoker that visited the orphanage.

"U-Uh." He stuttered slightly, realising that Snape was not going to let him off easy.

"Me. I humoured him." She spoke up, turning around so she faced her Head Of House.

"Miss Nightingale? Disappointing..." He sighed deeply in annoyance. "Detention this week, and the one after the holiday. For distracting other students."

"A vanishing cabinet?" Blaise questioned, looking at his best mate as if he had just grown another head.

"Yes. I've got to mend it, but it's bloody difficult and I'm running out of time." He sighed in frustration, pacing around the room for a bit. "-mother owled me to say I could tell you, since...you're going to be...you know. In the Christmas Break."

"But isn't that like-difficult Dark Magic?" His calm friend asked, still sitting at the couch that had appeared for them.

"No shit." He laughed bitterly as he sat down. "I've tried other things...but they didn't work out."

"Katie Bell." Blaise breathed out in realisation, looking up at him. "I hear she's coming back soon, Draco."

"I used the Imperius Curse, so she shouldn't remember anything." He sighs. "The guilt's eating me, Blaise." Blaise raised an eyebrow at that, standing up.

"Not for hexing Bell. For not telling Nightingale." Draco stopped pacing at that, turning towards him, trying to laugh it off.

"Now you're just being ridiculous."

The two Slytherin boys were walking down the halls. Not with a real destination in mind. Just walking around a bit. Chatting aimlessly.
