Black Out Tuesday- A Reminder of What is Happening in America

I'm not sorry that this isn't a post.

Throughout social media, I have seen so many of my friends post on their stories and whatnot about what is happening in America.

I am not a person of color. I am a White America who definitely has privilege, even when compared to other white Americans around me.

I am grateful for everything that is given to me, but now that I am older, I need to recognize this privilege and speak out against it.

The United States of America has a huge problem with racism. My privilege allows me to not see racism in my communities, so seeing it on social media is always a big shock.

What happened to George Floyd is disgusting and horrible. My heart goes out to his family Black Americans who are struggling with the aftermath of this.

My heart goes out to the people who face police brutality and don't go "viral".

Lastly, my heart goes out to every person of color who has died by the hands of racist Americans.

What is happening is beyond unfair...

Social media is covered with retweets and Instagram stories of links and donations and anti-racist quotes.

Being a person with a limited amount of followers and private, I didn't see the purpose of sharing all of this on my accounts. I wasn't a public person. What I posted wasn't going to be seen by anyone new. I shared posts that I found most powerful (one being the last words of those who died by the hands of the police), but post links to sites wasn't going to do anything on my side.

I saw people saying that I was part of the problem for not sharing, but on those platforms, everyone who followed me follows people who have a better reach than I did.

Then I remember about Wattpad.

I am a public figure on Wattpad through my story. I get many views and it is important for me to reach out to my readers.

Please, if you haven't already sign some petitions. If you can donate. If you want go protest.

If you decide to go to a local protest, BE CAREFUL!! Honestly they seem super scary, but I understand the good they can do. Just be careful.

Also support wonderful black creators on Wattpad. It is difficult to honestly tell when real names aren't used and there aren't real pictures, but there are vocal people of color on Wattpad. Support them and show them your love. One of my favorite superhero books has so many black men and woman (as well of other people of color), and it is called "Saving a Villain". So if you like my book, you will love that one. The two main characters are people of color.

I am not a perfect person and I know that I will never be, but I am trying to be a more fair and just person. I am trying to be anti-racist. In my eyes, it's a little difficult (meaning to fight activity against racism and not just being not racist- sorry for the too many not's, I hope it's not confusing) because what can I do? I am just one person.

But I am trying to force myself to realized that I can do a lot of things.

My favorite thing going around on Instagram right now is the phrase: I understand that I will never understand; however I stan you.

I am trying to understand how to be a better ally. And let me say that this shit isn't taught in schools. I am still learning and understanding.

I don't want George's Floyd's death to be lost like so many others. I hope that this is the tipping moment in American history. I hope that it is one more step to ending racism in the government and law enforcement.

We can never change someone's hard opinions on race, but we can fix those who still promote racism and tolerance of racism.

I dedication and to show my support I am posting this as well as the black picture in honor of Black Out Tuesday (June 2, 2020). I will also not be deleting this post ever, so if you are reading this after the date, maybe months later, this is a reminder of what happened.

For me, this is a promise to myself that I can make a change.
