Chapter Five:

Emi's POV:

Blood. That was all I could think about. The blood he lost. the type of blood Yukio had, the blood transfusion Yukio needed, and the one I gave without hesitation. The blood on my skin, hands, and clothes. I tried to calculate exactly how much blood Yukio lost to see if the odds were in his favor. They weren't. I sat in the waiting room, Kami layed on my shoulders, sleeping. I looked down at my lap to see Yukio's guns. I held one with my now red hands.

This might be the last thing I have of Yukio's.

I was snapped out of my thoughts when I heard my name being called. I looked at the door to see Nyx and Rin. Nyx looked worried, but Rin looked angry.

Figures. He has every right to blame me.

"Oh, she's there! Emi, hey, we're here." She kneeled in front of me, taking my hands. She didn't seem to mind the blood. I looked up at Rin with guilt. He was panting.

"H-how is he?" The elder twin asked. I couldn't meet his eyes.

"His chances are... slim." I whispered the last part. The boy began to tremble.

"You, this is your fault-"

"Rin!" Nyx shouted. She gave him a look as if to say, "Get out of here and cool off."

He walked away, feet stomping. I looked back at my lap. He was right. This was my fault.

"I'm sorry." I muttered. Rin turned around, anger in his eyes.

"You're sorry? Sorry isn't gonna cut it. My brother could die because of you!" Rin spat, his finger pointing at me. I flinched at his tone. Nyx tried to interject, but I spoke up before she got the chance.

"It should've been me! Is that what you want to hear?" I stood from my seat, my coat falling off my shoulders, revealing the blood all over my body. "What do you want me to say? That while I held him in my arms, I wished it was me instead of him? That while I begged for him to not slip away, I wanted it to be the other way around?" I started shaking again and Nyx tried to calm me down.

"Hey, Emi. Why don't you sit dow-" I ignored her as I reached for my bloodied shirt.

"This was all I had, Rin. A stupid shirt. What else would you have me do?!" I paused, my breath catching in my throat. The boy stormed off.

"You realize he doesn't mean it." Nyx started softly. She met my eyes. "You're losing a friend, but he's losing a brother. The one he promised to always take care of. He's the older one. How do you think he feels? You know he's explosive, so don't take him seriously, just look at it from his perspective for a moment. You both need to calm down, and be presentable for Yukio. Stop thinking about what could have been, and worry about right now." I looked at Nyx, still shaking. Before I could say anything, the other students came in. Nyx quickly put my coat over my shoulders.

"Is he going to be okay?" Shiemi asked, eyes tearing up. I cleared my throat, turning on my "strong teacher" facade.

"We don't know. The doctors haven't said anything. All we can do is wait for now. You are all welcome to stay, but please be aware that this may take awhile." I explained, trying to steady my voice.

"How is Okumura?" Shima asked. I looked at Nyx. I could tell she was worried about Rin too.

"How do you think, dumbass." Suguro said while elbowing him.

"Rin is cooling off. Give him some space. Let's do the same for Ms. Takayama." Nyx answered for me. "Ms. Takayama, let's go find a bathroom." She helped me to my feet, resting a hand gently on the small of my back, guiding me away from the students and to the washroom. She turned on the sink, running warm water. "Give me your hand." I absentmindedly gave it to her, letting her gently scrub off the blood. "You should take a second and pull yourself together." She spoke, looking at my hands.
