Don't want to die

Start from the beginning

Taemin's breath got caught in his throat. He quickly looked up. Jonghyun was showing Onew's mom a video, Key and Onew were chatting with some friends, and then there was him, laughing at some joke one of the staff members made.

Taemin didn't know why, but he felt empty all of sudden, he felt somehow sad and angry. He saw his phone displaying that last sentence, and he blocked his phone. But out of nowhere, his phone screen lit up, showing him his lock screen which is a picture he and Minho took together a few days ago.

Then, he had the sudden need to cry. He knew he couldn't cry here, there were too many people. So he immediately stood up and fast-walked to his room. He heard Key calling him somewhere in the house, but he kept walking without looking at anyone, saying a rushed “now I can't” because he knows if he doesn't get in his room quick, he would cry right at that moment. He could feel the tears pooling in his eyes already.

When he reached his room, he quickly closed the door and collapsed on his shared bed with Minho, the tears fell unwillingly.

He couldn't stop. He couldn't stop crying.  He couldn’t stop crying because that story seemed so real, pure and beautiful, and it suddenly ends like this. And the scary part is that this happens.

People fall in love and they will eventually lose their other half. This happens. Life's like this. And he doesn't want it to be like this. He doesn't want to leave Minho like that; he doesn't want to leave Minho at all. He doesn't even want to think about it.

After a few minutes, the door opens slowly and the one who enters closes it again.

Taemin knows it's him.

“Tae– baby why are you crying?” Taemin knew he was going to check on him and he also knew Minho was surprised to see him crying like that. But he couldn't help it.

Minho quickly got in bed next to him and hugged him. He doesn't know why he's being like this, but he can't let him cry alone like that. “What's wrong?”

And in a jumble of words, Minho could somehow understand what Taemin was talking about.

“I don't want to d-die.” Taemin whimpered in his neck. He didn't want to. He knows people die but-it's just not fair if you're in love.

“But Tae, that's just a fanfic. You're okay.” Minho tried to reassure him, but he knew how Taemin felt like, he had thought about it before.

“I was okay in that fanfic too! Th-that's the thing with life-you're okay today and tomorrow you are sick and the next week you're dead. I don't want to be like that, I don't want a-anyone to be like this. Mi-Minho, how many people have lost their other half because of death-because of fucking life?!” Taemin was hysteric now. Why can’t people live forever with their loved one? Why do people have to die and leave their other half behind? Why is life so cruel? What does life gets out of this? There were so many questions in his head that he already knew the answer, but his heart couldn’t understand it.

But he had a clear point there; there are people out there that lost their wife, their husband because of death. And it's indeed cruel, but that's life. He knew he wouldn't be able to make Taemin feel better, so he hugged him a little tighter; he kissed his temple and asked a simple question.

“Did I ever stop loving you?”

Taemin looked up to see him staring at him, waiting for an answer. He knew he was talking about the story, Taemin knew the answer. He knew the answer and that made him tear up more. His tears fell again because that what makes it crueler.

He hid his face in Minho's neck again, he felt stupid for crying so much but that's how his heart feels. “No, you didn't.”

“Then, I'm happy, because I was there until the end, yes?” The hopeful tone in Minho's voice made the younger boy sob harder against his neck. His grip on Minho was so strong, yet Minho couldn't care less.

“Th-that's the thing, you never stopped. You never stopped and I still left you. I don't want to leave you. Not like that. I don't want to, Minho.”

Minho separated himself from Taemin a little; he cupped his face and left a short yet sweet kiss on his lips.

“But you never left me; you were always with me, in my heart.”

That night, Minho and Taemin didn't come out to the party anymore. The younger boy was too heartbroken to celebrate. His eyes were puffy and his nose was red, and even the slight memory of a simple sentence of that story made him cry again.

But it was okay, because he cried in Minho's arms so it wasn't so bad. It's never so bad when you are with the one you love.
