Chapter 15: Cupid

Start from the beginning

The offender put his hands up in surrender. "Whoah, wait a minute! No need to get your knickers in a twist. Remember that it would be considered bullying if someone like you were to challenge me to a brawl. You're not that cruel, are you?"

"I don't know, am I?" His silver eyes deepened into a pool of grey and I started to worry for careless Cupid.

"Speaking of knickers," my voice spoke up timidly. "You're not what I was expecting. I thought you're supposed to be wearing diapers and are a timeless infant. Did the stories get it wrong?" My gaze scanned the man from head to toe. No infant he was—standing proudly at over six feet with a hard body. Fittingly enough though, he was gifted with a baby face which would easily make any woman fall for him.

Thankfully, I was a bitch so I didn't count.

"Humans always get things wrong at some point of retelling stories about us. That portrayal of me is the bane of my existence." He said dramatically pinching the bridge of his nose.

"At least it's cute." I argued with a shrug.

"Are you saying my current appearance isn't cute?" He huffed.

I eyed him from head to toe before saying, "I'm afraid so."

His jaw dropped.

"You know what? I'm glad you said so because since I've been looking at you all that's been on my mind is how brown is so not your color." The seemingly man-child snapped back at me.

I rolled my eyes at his childish jab at me.

"If you must know I've been living with brunette hair all my life. But you wouldn't know that, would you? I shouldn't be surprised though. It seems to me that there are many things that you don't know."

He gasped. "Did you just insult me?"

"I take it you're slow as well. Dense and slow at even getting an insult, who's the pitiful one now?" I said referring to his words from earlier.

"You little bitc—" He yelled lunging at me but his acquaintance was quick in blocking his attack.

Angelo held him by the strap of the bow and arrow I hadn't noticed was around him. "It's your fault for starting it."

"You're always taking her side!" He snapped. "Even that one time when she put hair dye in my shampoo causing it to turn green you said it was my fault for teasing her that she was jealous about Evie flirting with you!"

"That is because even then it was your fault." He agreed, sticking by his words.

Cupid let out a growl before wiggling out of his hold. It was to no avail and it made him look like a chihuahua in a pitbull's mouth. "Could you be kind enough to release me?" He asked between clenched teeth.

With reluctance Angelo let him go and he stumbled on his feet with the force of it.

I giggled unknowingly.

He shot me a dirty stare. "Oh, I'd love to see if you'll still be laughing once he gets inside that mind of yours to restore your memories."

"What did you just say?"

"Is that the only way?"

Cupid only answered the second of the two. "Advanced chronokinesis? I'm afraid so."

"Her body won't be able to handle that." Angelo growled, upset at the man for even offering that as an option.

"Maybe not every memory of you all at once, but piece by piece. You can bring her back and show her your relationship every step along the way. Until one day it all forms a big picture within her mind without the process having to hurt her. Then boom! She remembers. You two are in love again. We all live happily ever after. The end."

Angelo lips snapped shut in consideration. "It does sound plausible, but I don't know the extent to which it will tire her out."

"Are you kidding me? She's endured way worst," Angelo's eyes flashed murderously at the reminder. "At least then she will be able to find the idea of the two of you more credible."

"Exactly what is this man-child suggesting?" I spoke up making the aforementioned scoff.

"I'm a man. A whole man."

"Prove it."

His eyes blazed.

"I would but I don't think Angelo will look very favorably upon my actions."

I gaped at him. "You wouldn't dare."

He licked his lips suggestively. "Oh, yes, I would."

"You're disgusting."

"You're the one who challenged me. I know you don't remember but I have a rather competitive spirit. Anything you say I can't do makes me want to do it even more."

I turned to Angelo. "He really is as intolerable as you say."

He shot me an I told you so look.

"I'll have you know my bow and arrow isn't used only for matchmaking."

Feeling excessively infuriated by the little brat, I cocked an eyebrow at him. "Ooh, I'm shaking in my boots. A pretty little man-child makes me quiver in fear. What ever shall I do!"

He growled at my sarcasm before whipping around at Angelo. "You know what? You're on your own with this one."

"Oh no you don't," Angelo grabbed at him quickly upon his retreat. "You're going to help me. The more the merrier, especially when it comes to magical prowess."

"No I won't join you—three's a crowd."

Angelo glared sharply at him.

"You won't even need much help from me anyway, at least not when you're doing it this way. Even though I hate to admit it, even after being punished, you're still ten times more powerful than I am."

"I am aware."

"Then why—"

"I need to ensure that no one interrupts us in this state. You know how important it is to protect one's body when doing this. The success of this operation depends on it."

"Hello? Aren't you guys forgetting something?" I waved a hand in between the two of them. "I never agreed to any of this."

"We don't need your permission." Cupid spat and I was ready to tear his head off.

"Why you little—" A warm hand rested on my shoulder and I looked to Angelo who gave me an apologetic expression.

"Sleep." He ordered softly.

"Sedation, nice." I heard Cupid's stupid voice say in admiration.

"Be quiet, Eros."

That was the last thing I heard before my body headed towards the ground and I was out cold.
