Better Together (5) A day of emotions

After Jackson was baptized there was a small reception at Steve's family which was going very well until Steve plucked Jackson away from me. Which was fine , that's his dad who he need's to spend time with. I was in the middle of talking to Robin when Matt walked over saying "do you know where your baby is" I rolled my eyes since I knew Matt and Steve didn't have the greatest relationship. Ironically enough they used to be best friends in kindergarten but after Steve made his turn to the dark side Matt and Steve never spoke which I don't blame Matt for since Steve had been pretty awful towards Matt and the rest of our (my) friends , I responded to Matt's question saying. "he's with Steve" Matt chuckled in response saying "you mean Carol" I furrowed my brows before he added "I didn't know you let Steve smoke around him". I shook my head again saying "I don't" Matt responded saying "then I'd go see what's happening in the driveway" , sure enough when I entered the living room and peeked through the large window there was Steve and Tommy smoking away while Jackson was in Carol's arms crying (wailing). I sighed before walking out of the house , Steve imminently meet my eyes looking like a rabbit that had been caught in a garden. He then imminently stared at his shoes as Jackson continued to sob in Carol's arm , I could tell she didn't like since before I plucked my sweet baby boy out o her arms she spoke saying. "He's so whiney , does he ever stop crying got it's so annoying" that was the final straw , I pulled Jackson out of his arms as Tommy spoke saying "uh oh here comes trouble" I rolled my eyes as Jackson Imminently calmed down and relaxed in my arms , I swear he gave Carol that same grin Steve would when he knows exactly what he's doing which the idea of Jackson being a smart ass like Steve would keep me up at night. Before I could walk away and leave the circus and the smoke show Tommy spoke again saying "you know what Yl/n you look good , real good I'll tell you what when Carol and I our done I'll give you a call" I rolled my eyes before Steve tossed his cigarette and stomped it out before gesturing to take Jackson. I shook my head causing Steve to roll his eyes before Carol started up again , when Steve and I were dating this wasn't unusual for Tommy and Carol to nitpick at me and judge me , poke fun and bother me , sometimes Heather and Mark would be there but I guess today they had other plans. I rolled my eyes but Carol didn't say anything to me instead she started pinching at Jackson before she spoke saying "god he's chubby what are you feeding him , look at him". My jaw feel before Tommy added "yeah I know god and he doesn't even look like you Steve" hell no , this is not happening. Bothering me is one thing , giving me crap is one thing but nobody , not one single person is ever aloud to say one thing about my baby boy let along these two meatheads. Before I could say something Tommy continued with "are you even sure he's yours Steve" Steve nodded causing my jaw to drop saying "excuse me" Steve chuckled before I had enough and decided I was going to talk back this time , I was standing my ground. "Well I'm sure Steve has given you all the details so I'm pretty sure you know that he is" both their jaws feel before Steve pulled Jackson out of my arms causing him to start crying before Carol spoke up again saying "see what I mean , so whiney why is that". I then bluntly responded "cause Steve's never around unless Steve's in the doghouse" Steve's jaw feel before Tommy and Carol busted out in laughter. Steve rolled his eyes before I added "what" he rolled his eyes again before he tried pecking a kiss onto Jackson's cheek only for Jackson to pull away , I plucked Jackson out of his arms before walking back inside"

*****Flashback Over*****

It was about half way through the baptism before I was supposed to go up with Stewart since we were Emma's godparents , I was sitting and trying not to think about Jackson's baptism when all of the sudden my ears were flooded with the all familiar sound. Of curse I looked over to see Steve head leaned back passed asleep with Jackson leaned onto him asleep and not only that they were both snoring. I sighed before trying to wake them without bringing any attention to us , I shook Steve's arm before he jolted awake before he lulled Jackson awake. Steve fully sat up before wrapping his arm around my shoulder before I mumbled "maybe if you didn't go on a run at three o clock in the morning" he responded saying "are we okay". I sighed saying "fine" he responded saying "babe if there's anything I said" I shook my head saying "I don't wanna talk about it right now okay" he silently nodded before I was gestured to go up with Stewart .

Steve's P.O.V

It was the reception after the baptism when I saw Mr. Yl/n. Mr. Yl/n and I haven't always gotten along , I've done things and he's said things. Basically Mr. Yl/n and I don't really have the greatest relationship , we don't actually have a relationship and the only time he's ever talked to me was when either I screwed up with Y/n or well actually that us the only time we talk to one another but today I was going to change that , I was gonna musk up some courage and talk to him. I might've not done everything right in the past but I was going to do this right , I just had to if not me for Y/n. I walked over to were he was standing with Y/n's mom Mrs. Yl/n , when I got to them before greeting. I then spoke saying "Mr. Yl/n can I um uh-" he quickly cut me off saying "don't stutter Steve you're a grown man talk like one". I nodded before saying "can I speak to you sir" he rolled his eyes before saying "fine" after stepping outside with Mr. Yl/n I began to speak again saying "uh Mr. Yl/n I know you and I uh don't". Just like earlier he cut me off saying "Steve just rip it off like a band aid what is it" I responded saying "I wanted to know if it would cool if I could marry your daughter" Mr. Yl/n laughed before saying "no it would not" my jaw feel before I spoke saying "I know I haven't always chosen to do things in the most traditional order but I though this would change it". He shook his head again before I added "Mr. Yl/n I um I-" he cut me off saying "enough with the stuttering Steve , maybe if you went to college you wouldn't do that , I mean why oh why would she pick someone like you instead of someone who has a college education like Stewart". I frowned at his words before he added "Steve I'm gonna be clear , I don't like you I'll never like you. You will always be that same stupid teenager who put my daughter through hell and didn't a shit about anyone except yourself understand". Before I could respond he walked away leaving me with a feeling of defeat , I felt an arm graze my mine. It was Y/n she of course could sense my feeling since she was that amazing before she spoke saying "are you okay" I nodded since she of course couldn't know what I was asking her dad about. She of course knew something was up cause she added "are you sure" I nodded before she continued with "well we were gonna go , are you sure your okay" I nodded again since I didn't want Y/n worrying. She's got so much on her plate , she's got stuff going on at work , Jackson and not to mention Buster could be a handful since he's a puppy I didn't want her worrying about it. Not to mention she simply cannot know that I talked to her dad about proposing , she also can't know that I've had an engagement ring in my back pocket for almost a year and I've almost proposed several times but never could musk up the full courage to do so (I actually almost did last night but Jackson decided that that was the moment he had to bring up something funny that happened at school , I- "Steve baby" Y/n said interrupting my thoughts. I nodded before she added "are you ready" I nodded again before we made our way to my car.

After Jackson was fast asleep in bed and Buster was snuggled up into a little ball in his dog bed. I was settled onto the couch while Y/n was entering the living room , she had a stack of mail in her hands. I went to tell Y/n something before her jaw feel and said words that I hadn't heard her say sense before Jackson was born. "what the hell , those jackasses can't do this" I could tell something had he upset so I counteracted by saying in a much sweeter tone "what's wrong sweetie". Y/n responded saying "they raised my rent , oh my god look at this" she handed the paper to me before taking a seat next to me she then added "that's triple I can't pay that , what am I gonna do". I could see the tears start to build up in my eyes before the idea popped into my head and I didn't even think I just blurted out "we'll move into my place , it'll be fine". She responded saying "really" I nodded before she added "okay and we can go half and half on the rent right". I shook my head saying "nope I don't want you to worry about that okay , you've got enough on your plate let me take care of this". She nodded before I pecked her cheek before I wiped some of the stray tears , before I spoke saying "are you okay" she nodded before she asked "are you sure your okay with us moving in together" I nodded before she added "I'm gonna have to admit I'm gonna miss this place", I nodded before saying "I know baby but think about it there's a fireplace , a patio the rooms are more spacious and three bedrooms". Y/n responded "actually I've been-" I cut her off knowing exactly what she was going to say so I added "for an office wouldn't it be nice to have a home office" Y/n spoke saying "why would I need a home office when I do all my work at the office" I responded saying "well when you get that promotion it'll be more work so your going to need somewhere to do your work" she pecked my lips before I deepened the kiss before picking her up bridal style causing her to pull away from my lips saying "what are you doing" I responded saying "calming your worries if that's okay" she responded saying "always" before placing her lips back onto mine.
