Chapter 22: Sorting Time

Xu Qin who was currently staring at the fire with half-lidded eyes while immersing in his chaotic thoughts suddenly felt something touch the top of his head forcibly snapping him back to his senses.

When it was dawned to him that the other person was actually petting his head, he incredulously turned his face to look at the person beside him. 

"You have worked hard. Xu Mei's matter, let me handle it. You can be at ease."

Perhaps due to the calmness in her voice, a stone seemed to be lifted from his chest just by hearing these simple reassuring words.
 
Seeing that his mood gradually returned normal, Xu Ming slowly took back his hand and turned his face back to the original direction.

Due to this, he didn't see a look of disappointment that briefly fleeted through Xu Qin's eyes once he took his hand back.

On the other hand, Xu Ming continued to appease the young man,"I'm speaking this from a third party view. I still have no recollection of the past but after listening from here and there I can assure you that Su Ming's goal is just to become a wife of a rich man and spend her days leisurely as a rich madam. She may be a bit crooked due to her family situation but that doesn't justify her abandonment of her child."

Xu Ming had taken care of his subordinates in the past and his trust aids were all orphans picked up by him so appeasing others was not something he couldn't do.

He softened his tone as he spoke in an unhurried voice,"You are a good father and husband, there is no doubt. So no need to be self-blame." 

Xu Qin didn't say anything in return but the slight tug at the corner of his lips portrayed that he was in a good mood after hearing those words.

However, his mood instantly dampened upon hearing her next sentence.

"Just make sure to choose the right person after I am gone."  

Xu Qin wanted to say something but he decided to hold himself back in the end.

Following afterward, only silence prevailed. Therefore, after Xu Lin and Xu Wei came back all of them decided to return to the mansion.

Xu Mei was in the same room as her grandparents so there was no need for the two to sleep together.

Xu Ming with his back toward Xu Qin lightly said,"I will go to sleep in another room." 

Xu Qin had no reason to stop her so he softly hummed in agreement.

Staring at that slender back, Xu Qin didn't know why but he felt like something was wrong with the other party. 

Is it his imagination that she looks… down?

Nevertheless, Xu Qin shook his head in denial since she seemed fine not long ago so there was no reason for her mood to suddenly plummet.

In the meantime, Xu Ming closed the door then simply stood still.

Their previous topic led him to recall a certain scene…

An unpleasant memory.

A woman's hoarse voice disdainfully yelled at him.

"You… already learned how to kill, right? You monster in human skin, scums of the society…"

"All of you should go and die!"

"Quickly scram!"

Soon after that, a certain man's stern face resurfaced in his mind. With an emotionless tone, he nonchalantly said,"Just focus on your studies. Your mother's business is not yours so there is no reason for it to affect your performance, get it?"
