[This is the second book of the "Mrs. Mafia" trilogy]
It's been two years since Napoleon DiStefano was born and it's all been absolutely amazing for Apollo and Arabella DiStefano. The family has been the happiest since they lost a vital member, peop...
"You know who I am," she gestured to one of the two wooden stools behind the concrete island where a tray of fresh-baked cookies rested "sit down, brother."
Without a question, I followed her orders and she sat beside me; she's so grown up and beautiful "What is this?"
"You tell me," she scoffed.
"Am I dead?"
"Why would I know that?"
My mouth went dry "Before they—" I stopped talking and tried to find a kind word for the following statement.
"Killed me?" She stuffed her mouth with the cookie "what about it?" Her mouth was full just like when we were kids and would go into the pantry for snacks; to not get caught we would hide them in our mouths.
"Well," I cleared my throat "you said you would be waiting for me—"
"With freshly-baked cookies," interrupted once again.
"Don't interrupt me, Artemisa!" I crossed my arms groaning.
My sister gasped before punching my left shoulder "Don't call me that Apollon!"
"Well you keep interrupting me!"
"Well you keep on making stupid questions! I thought my loss would make you mysterious like Batman or some shit," she picked up another cookie.
My right eyebrow arched "Newsflash: life is not like the movies."
"I know you twat, I'm dead, let me dream!" She exclaimed making me feel awful. "Anyway, I'm just here to tell you that Arabella is a great woman," my sister showed me a grin "well young woman."
A soft smile appeared on my lips "She's the love of my life."
"She probably killed you in another life."
"Most likely," I shrugged making us both laugh; she still snorts. "You still snort."
"Well yeah, bitch, I died not teleport to another body," Artemis giggled.
"That's macabre, Artemis," I crossed my arms.
She rolled her eyes at me "As I was saying; Arabella is a wonderful woman. What would you do for her?"
"Anything, everything," I immediately replied; a blush rushed up my body.
"You still have that deep blush," my sister smirked "cute."
"Shut up, bitch," I groaned.
A loud laugh left her mouth making my heart flutter "Fine fine," from the tray she grabbed a cookie and handed it to me "take it."
"Thank you," I took it.
Artemis lay her head down on her folded arms, her eyes were locked with mine "I never left you Apollo and I will never do so. I'm a part of you."
"I know," My voice was quiet.
"Every time you look at the stars you'll find me, in every white butterfly, freshly-baked cookies badge and beat of your heart will I forever be," her smile softened "I love you more than anything and none of it has ever been your fault; our time always comes even if we don't want it to."
Her words pulled on my heartstrings like a harp; I felt tranquil knowing that she was at peace "I love you too," I mimicked her position "can I eat my cookie now?"
"Go ahead," my sister chuckled. Not a second later I took a big bite as in half of the cookie "I need to tell you something."
"What is it?" Mouth full, don't care.
"I tricked you, those are not freshly baked, they were in the pantry and I just threw them in the oven," it all slowly became blurry "enjoy your life Apollo," her voice faded away.
