Angel's Point of View

The rest of the day dragged on and it felt like seven o'clock wouldn't come soon enough. Now that it was finally here, though, I was a nervous wreck. I stood on Hank's doorstep awkwardly, unable to bring myself to knock on the door.

"Get your shit together..." I mumbled to myself, "She wouldn't have suggested dinner if she didn't want you here..."

I took a deep breath and lifted my hand to knock just as the front door opened and Hank walked out of the house. I raised an eyebrow, wondering why he was still here.

"Hey, carnal," Hank said as he pulled me in for a quick hug, "I have no idea what you said to her earlier, but I haven't seen her like this in weeks."

"I didn't say anything," I replied, "She came to me. I have a feeling Adelita may have said something to her."

"Adelita's a smart woman," Hank said with a wink, "Sophia had me stop at Felipe's to pick stuff up for dinner."

"I may have suggested that," I said with a smile, "I made a call to pop just in case she decided to go."

"Good call...you're getting spoiled tonight," Hank said with a laugh, "I almost wish it was me she was cooking for...You can go on in. She so lost in her own little world right now that she probably wouldn't hear it if you knocked on the door."

"Thanks Hank," I replied.

"Be good to her," Hank said as he made his way down the walkway to his bike, "She's a little fragile right now."

I nodded as I waved him off and then made my way into the house. I took my kutte off and hung it on the coat rack before I walked into the kitchen. There was some country crap playing on the blue tooth speaker and she was completely oblivious to me watching her. I leaned against the door frame and crossed my arms in front of my chest and smiled. Sophia was stunningly beautiful. Her long black hair was tied back in a sleek ponytail and she was wearing a simple dark blue summer dress that swayed back and forth as she moved.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't thinking dirty thoughts at that moment, but I also saw and felt something more than just sexual desire. I thought I had loved Sophia before the break up, but I never realized how much I loved her until this afternoon. How she put her feelings aside to save someone she had never met and then to see her sitting on the couch with Diego in her arms with tears streaming down her face. I knew tonight was my chance to prove to her that she was the only woman I wanted. Hell, she was the only woman I needed.

"Hey beautiful," I said as I watched her fry some vegetables in a frying pan.

Sophia spun around, her dress flowing out around her. The most beautiful smile spread across her face when she saw me and my breath hitched in my throat. She put the wooden spoon on the counter and then leaned against it, looking over at me.

"I'm glad you came," she said sweetly as she turned the volume down on her music, "and just in time too. Dinner is ready."

"I'm glad you invited me," I replied, my voice hoarse with nerves, "It means a lot."

"Well, I had to get my head out of the sand some time," she replied, "It took a little pep-talk from Adelita to help me get there, but it really helped me to see the situation from your perspective. I'm sorry I shut you out, Angel."

"I understand why you did it, though," I replied as I walked over to her and put the beer I promised down on the counter, "I betrayed your trust in a big way and I didn't realize at the time, how much that hurt you. I don't want to hurt you like that again, Soph."
