Well this didn't go at all how I was expecting it to...

I was crouched down in a storage closet in the kitchen, hoping and praying to God that whoever was in the house wouldn't find me. My heart was beating so loudly in my chest I was afraid that the intruder would find me.

I pulled my phone out of my pocket with a shaky hand and quickly dialed Angel, hoping he would answer, but his phone went directly to voice mail. A single tear fell down my cheek as I hung up the phone.

"Where is she?" a man yelled from the living room.

"You leave her out of this!" I heard my dad cry out, "Sophia is innocent in all of this!"

"She is related to you," the man growled, "She isn't innocent. Now tell me where she is hiding or in three seconds I will put a bullet in your brain."

"She isn't here," my dad insisted, "please leave her out of this."

"3..."

"Fuckin leave her out of this!"

"2..."

"I swear to God, if you touch..."

"Maybe your wife will be able to help me," the man growled before pulling the trigger.

The gun shot echoed through the house and shook me to my core. I heard my mother's scream and I slapped my hand against my mouth to stop myself from crying out. The tears burned behind my eyes as I fought to keep them from falling. With a shaky hand I struggled to look for the next phone number and pushed "call" one I found it.

After two rings he answered.

"Yeah."

"Coco...it's Sophie," I whispered into the phone, "I tried calling Angel but his phone went straight to voicemail."

"His phone's dead, Soph," Coco answered, "You sound petrified. Do you want Angel?"

"No, you're good," I whispered.

"Baby girl," Coco said, "What's wrong?"

"Coco, I think I'm trouble," I whispered again, "I think my dad got in deep with someone, not sure who...I think whoever broke into the house just killed my dad and now I think he's got my mom at gun point. Coco, I need your help...it's only a matter of time before he finds me...for some reason this guy is looking for me but my dad wouldn't tell him where I was."

"Fuck, that son of bitch," Coco growled, "Sophie, we're on our way. Keep quiet and stay where you are. We'll be there as soon as we can."

"Hurry Coco, please," I pleaded in a whisper, "I'm so scared."

"You're gonna be ok," Coco replied, "We love you. Just hold on."

With that, the line went dead and I was left alone in the quiet with my thoughts as well as the quiet whimpers of my mother in the living room. I wrapped my arms around myself tightly and rocked back and forth, trying to calm herself down.

"Now...Mrs. Lazo, please tell me where I can find your precious Sophia," she heard the man sneer from the living room, "You clearly saw what I am capable of, don't think I won't do the same thing to you."

Please momma, don't sacrifice yourself for me. Please don't do it...

"My daughter isn't home," my mother answered in between whimpers, "She doesn't get home from her trip until tomorrow."

"Bullshit," the man growled, "Tell me where she is or you will receive the same fate as your husband."

"I would rather die than tell you anything about my daughter!"

"So be it..." the man growled again, "I am willing to give you one more chance, but after that, I will end you and then I will find her myself..."

Me resolve crumbled as the tears continued to flow down my cheeks.

"My daughter is not part of my husband's mistake," she heard her mother shout, "Please, I beg you, leave Sophia out of this!"

"I said I would give you one more chance..." the man roared.

I took a deep breath and did exactly the opposite of what Coco had told me to do. I pushed the closet door open with a bang and ran out into the living room. The horror of what I saw knocked me to my knees. My dad's body was sprawled out on the floor to her left just a few feet from the front door. His blood was splattered all over the hardwood and up the wall behind him. My mother was on her knees with her hands bound behind her back, there was a large gash on her forehead from where he must have hit her earlier, her hair was a mess, and her eyes were red and wet with tears.

"Please don't hurt her," I cried out as I ran to my mom's side.

As I attempted to run to my mom's side, the man, who was wearing a black mask, threw out his arm to stop me. His fist made contact with my face, blood splattering from my mouth and I cried out in agony as I fell to the ground.

"You must be Sophia," he said calmly as he knelt down in front of me.

My body was trembling as his warm breath touched my skin and he placed the barrel of the gun at my temple and ran it down to cheek. As he tried to brush a piece of hair out of my eyes, I jerked my head away from him and looked the masked man in the eyes. His eyes were so brown they black and they were filled with an anger and hate that chilled her to the bone.

I always knew my father had his hand in several different shady dealings, but I never knew what they were. However, I always had a feeling that one of his many deals would get him killed one day and I wasn't wrong.

"You're father always said you were beautiful," he whispered as he slid a hand between my legs, "I just never expected you to be this beautiful..."

"Don't you fucking touch her," my mother screamed from the other side of the room, "she is not one of your girls that you can just sell to the highest bidder!"

My blood ran cold and I dug my nails into the palms of my hands as hard as I could. I couldn't remember a time that I was as scared as I was in that moment. I refused to believe that my father would have anything to do with something as horrendous as sex trafficking and the sex trade.

The masked man rubbed his free hand against the crotch of my pants and his brown-black eyes sparkled with an evil gleam that made me want to vomit. I tried to fight it but a tear escaped my eye as I tried to move away, but the moment I did, the masked man pointed the gun at my head and I had no choice.

"You're right, she isn't," the man said to my mother, "but after I take her for a test run she will be. Ms. Sophia Lazo will earn me a nice little profit."

"Don't you touch her!" my mother screamed.

"I can't do my job with you distracting me, Mrs. Lazo," the masked man stated simply. Without moving his eyes from mine he lifted the gun up, pointed it at my mother, and pulled the trigger. His eyes remained vacant of any emotion or remorse.

"No!" I screamed as I watched my mother's body crumple into a heap on the floor. I felt helpless and terrified. A cold sweat had covered my entire body and my heart was pounding in my chest. My breath hitched in my throat as I struggled to breath. I looked at the masked man in horror before looking around the room. The sight of both my parents dead on the floor was too much for me to handle.

"Please...let me go," I whimpered, "I don't know what my dad owed you, or how bad his debt was, but I'll find a way to pay it off."

The masked man laughed evilly.

"That's not how this works sweetheart," the man growled, "We made an agreement, your father and I, and if he couldn't make good on his part, he agreed to give me you as payment. He was reluctant at first, but he still agreed to it."

I became overwhelmed as my mind tried to process the words the masked man just uttered and there was no way I could comprehend it. Who, in their right mind, would agree to hand their own daughter over to a sex trafficker to pay off a debt? I groaned and hunched over as my stomach twisted into knots and I vomited all down the front of the masked man's jacket.

"You stupid bitch," he growled and then without any warning he slammed the butt of his gun against my temple, turning my world black.
