Against All Odds

Confession

Sumedh was not able to sleep. He looked towards his left and found Aarushi sleeping peacefully. He sighed and kept looking at her. He really wanted to confess his love for her but was too scared of his father and too ashamed of his behaviour with her.

Aarushi slowly opened her eyes and found Sumedh looking at her. She startled and sat up on bed.

"Are you insane?" She asked.

Still Sumedh was lost in his thoughts. She was noticing his strange behavior and decided to ask him.

"kya hua hai.? Ajib behave kyu kar rahe ho" She asked.

He also sat up. "I wanted to say something"

Aarushi crossed her fingers. She knew Sumedh was about to confess his love.

"Haan.. I am all ears" Aarushi said.

He took a deep breath. "I love my father Aarushi. I can't leave him like my brothers did.. " He said.

Aarushi gave a helpless look to him.

"Sumedh I know you love your father. And no one is telling you to leave him. And even your brothers haven't 'left' him. It's just that they want him to recognise their rights." She grabbed his arm and rested her head on his chest.

"What right Aarushi? Why are they portraying him as a dictator..? I don't understand." Sumedh was angry.

"Frankly saying, That's because you blindly trust him. You overlooked everything Sumedh. He is a shrewd person. He is an abusive husband to your mother. This was the main reason behind Amit's rebellious behaviour. It's not his hate for his father.. It's his love for his mother. "Aarushi said. For her surprise Sumedh was quiet.

She decided to take this conversation ahead. Even if that meant to offend Sumedh and his father.

" You know he was wrong when he got Rohit bhauji arrested. Just imagine yourself on his place. Wouldn't you be angry? Was he wrong when he was expecting support from his father? He got a betrayal instead. Why wouldn't he be angry? Bandana.. She asked her father to help her husband. Was she wrong? She tried to keep everything in between family but Baba refused to help his son. What was she going to do? "Aarushi asked.

Sumedh was lost in thoughts whilst listening everything.

"How do you guys look into your mother's eyes.?" Aarushi felt her voice becoming heavy. "She raised three sons by sacrificing everything just to see that not a single one from them is raising his voice against her torture. Instead they all decided to keep quiet and silently look every wrong thing happening with her."

Sumedh felt tears on his cheeks.

" You knew this is the truth. You knew it since day one. You just decided to ignore. You always knew your father is wrong. You ignored everything "Aarushi stood up." Only Amit had courage to stand against his father. He is standing against him and if time comes he will take his mother and other family members with him. Then you and father would live in a home where no women is present then you will understand our importance. "

" Okay. I understand everything. But my father loved me unconditionally Aarushi. And this is also a truth. He loves me. And if time comes where everyone decides to leave him I will stand with him. " Sumedh told.

" Fine. I understand your love and even his love. When someone you love is doing something wrong then it's your job to lead that person towards right. I will do that. I won't stand with wrong just for the sake of love. Instead I will try to lead my love towards right path.. " Aarushi said.

" I knew it. I am done torturing you Aarushi. You are free to take your own decision. " Sumedh declared.

This was not expected from him. She dropped her jaw." What did you say? "

" I said you are free to take your own decision. If you want to leave, you can" He said.

Aarushi came back in bed and sat in front of Sumedh. He furrowed his brows.

"How dare you? Majak samajh ke rakha hai? Jab chaha shadi kar li jab chaha bola nikal jao?" She was angry.

Sumedh was confused. "I thought you wanted freedom"

"What freedom Sumedh?" Aarushi shouted. "I married you. Because even I wanted to destroy you. But then I fell in love with you and dropped my plan and instead started solving your family problems.. I confessed my love for you even if you didn't listened... And you saw me going through all these phrases and still have audacity to say that I want freedom from you..? "

Sumedh was shocked." So you don't want to leave me? "

" No. You idiot. I don't want to leave you. I want to live with you and your family. A happy family. Where no one beats their wife and no one silently plans against anyone. " Aarushi said."Main sab kuch thik karna chahti hoon.. Sabke bich ka rishta sudharna chahti hoon.. So that we can live like a normal family. And you have been a zero help in this."

Sumedh looked in her eyes. "Even I want a happy family. We were never a happy family. I don't what kind of blind I was throughout my life... Why I ignored everything.. Why I never said anything to Baba.. Why I never supported Aai.. I don't know."

"I adore my father but I know he is a failed person in his family life.. I want to lead my father on right path.. Last whole month I was away from everyone. I hardly talked with anyone from our family. And I understand what is going wrong. I really do." Sumedh said." Main hoon aisa yr. Sab samajh me aata hai mujhe par confess karne nai aata.. Bahot ego bich me aata hai. "

" Sumedh.... "Aarushi saw her victory in his eyes."Is there anything else you want to confess?"

Sumedh leaned forward and slowly pecked on her lips. "I love you too"

Aarushi felt like screaming loudly. Finally Sumedh was confessing his love for her. "I love you so much Sumedh." She hugged him.

Sumedh hugged her back and suddenly remembered how rude and annoying he was with her. He really tortured her. Ruined her career. Made her do things which she never wanted to do. Threatened her. Blackmailed her...

" I am sorry Aarushi. I am really sorry." He was on verge to cry. "I was so evil with you... I am sorry..."

"It's okay. I forgive you." She broke the hug and looked into his eyes. "You understood your mistake.. I need you Sumedh. Your family needs you. Tum hi ho jo Baba ko sahi bana sakte ho. Unke bhi sare gunah maaf ho jayenge.. Wo ek raat me badal nai sakte apne aap ko par wo samne se koshish to kare.. Sab unko accept kar lenge.. Koi unka dushamn nai.. "

Sumedh nodded." I will try my best. I will stand for my mother Aarushi. I was wrong. I was always wrong. "

" You can always learn from your mistakes.. "Aarushi smiled.

Sumedh understood how lucky he is.. Even after being bad and evil he was getting a chance to fix everything he had broken throughout his life. He decided to use this chance to be the most helpful person in family reunion.
