"Did something happen earlier?" I nod to Cole as I give him a quick glance.
I picked him up a few minutes ago, and since then, he's been smiling nonstop.
"What do you mean?" From the corner of my eye, I see him turn his head to me.
"Well, for starters, you've been smiling since you got in the car. That and the fact that you haven't said much. So my best bet is that something good happened. Either that or something bad happened and you are masking it with your smile," I point out. But instead of saying something, he simply chuckles causing me to shake my head.
He wasn't going to tell me what happened that easily.
I focus on driving after that, a comfortable silence enveloping us.
But a thought crosses my mind.
He cares about her, a lot.
And it seems that the feeling is mutual for her.
But they don't like each other like that. Or do they?
Cole made it clear that he cares about Gabriella as a friend.
Unless he lied.
But why would he?
"Are you sure you don't like her as more than a friend?" I blurt out before I even have time to process my thoughts.
I expect Cole to give me a weird look.
But instead, Cole bursts out laughing.
"Well, you're right about that, Noah." My wince as I hear that. "I care about that girl more than I thought. And I will be there to protect and care for her." He continues but I don't like the sound of that.
Because... I want to be the one to protect and care for her.
I want it to be me.
I want to be the one for her.
My heartbeat races and I frown at the strange thoughts passing through my head.
Lately, I've been having weird thoughts about that girl.
A girl who I barely know, and yet, thoughts about her keep invaded my mind.
But why?
"I see." I finally reply.
"That's it?" Cole asks and I give him a quick glance. He looks surprised.
"What?" I ask.
A sigh leaves his lips and nods his lips. "Noah, you're smarter than this. But you have to find out on your own. I won't tell you anything. This is all you, but the moment you discover what it is, it's going to be amazing."
