"I'm Principal Lodico and I will be your mentor, your parent and your best friend or your worst enemy for the next four years." He introduced with a hearty laugh. Most students joined in the laughter, but Darryl and the girl didn't find it amusing.
"Oh, jeez." the girl muttered under her breath just as Darryl was rolling his eyes. He chuckled at her annoyance and she joined in, too. Darryl tried to pay attention to the man droning on and on, introducing school faculty, teachers, and staff but he couldn't help but sneak looks at the stunning girl besides him. Suddenly, his phone vibrated in his gray jeans. He fished out his SideKick and flipped it open. He got a text from his mother: Hey sweetie! Hope you have a good first day! Behave!
He quickly flipped his phone shut, hoping she wouldn't see, and rolled his eyes. His mom was always treating him like he was a five-year old on these kind of occasions, but since he was his parents' only child she had every reason to smother him.
"Omigosh! Cool phone." she commented with extreme interest.
"You're not gonna steal it from me, are you?" Darryl asked jokingly.
She stuck her tongue out at him with a playful glare, "So, Mr. Quiet, has jokes now?"
"You shouldn't be so quick to judge." Darryl joked back. She was easy to talk to, well whenever he could find the words to say to her.
"Eww, look at that girl!" the girl said pointing off to the far end of the auditorium. He followed the direction of her finger and saw a girl making her way through the exits of the room. She was quite tall and slender with a darker-skin tone. He thought she was kind of cute and had a great body, not as cute as the girl beside him, but he could see the reason behind the disgust in her voice. The girl was in a far too short skirt for the beginning of September and her tank-top barely covered her well-endowed chest.
"Well, it seems we found the class slut." Darryl whispered as he turned back to her. His remark rewarded him with the hearty, musical laughter emanating from her soft lips.
"Well I think I've spotted the class hottie." the girl crooned, her gazed settling on a guy seated toward the front of the room. He was well-built and had Darryl questioning if the guy could possibly be a freshman. He shrugged, not feeling comfortable at the way she stared in the guy's direction. Damn it, he loathed, already hating the kid.
She finally looked away and turned her attention back on stage. The principal gave the last greetings, wished the crowd good luck and warned them of the upperclassmen, and dismissed them. They both rose from their seats, schedules in hand.
"My name is Darryl, by the way." he greeted himself as they moved through the crowd and out into the hallway.
"Naomi." the girl greeted with a grin.
"Nay-omi? Hmm, I never heard it pronounced like that." Darryl joked, but he was glad that he could finally match a name to the beautiful face.
She shrugged, "I know. It sounds weird, but somehow people never get my name wrong. I guess I'm not worth forgetting." she said with a sweet smile. There was so much truth in her words, Darryl knew, because he didn't plan on forgetting her.
"I'll see you...fourth period!" Naomi called out as she scanned her schedule for clarity. She waved good-bye and she rushed off to her first class. He caught a good glimpse of her ass that left his mouth watering. He checked over his schedule once more, noting that their fourth period class was math. He hurried off to his first period English class, for once in his life looking forward to math.
