Chapter 26: Gone

(Demetri's POV)

I stood in the throne room listening to all the talking about what we need to do about Black. Aro decided to increase security around the castle and around Chloe since it was clear Blake wanted her. Chloe left a while ago when Aro dismissed her telling her to stay in our room until we figure things out. Raven had stayed though to listen to the conversations. After another few hours Aro dismissed us and I walked back to my room slowly. When I opened the door I instantly knew something was wrong.

"Chloe?" I called, but there was no answer. I walked into the room and noticed that her scent was faded indicating that she hasn't been here in a while. Suddenly my eyes landed on a small box on the bed with a note under it. I opened the box to find the engagement ring in it. I read the note right away and fell to my knees.

~Don't come after me~

"Chloe!" I called running out of the castle unable to track her for some reason. She must have blocked her mind from my gift making me regret teaching her that. I ran all over Volterra and to towns nearby, but I couldn't even pick up on her scent. Defeated, I returned to my room and fell onto my hands and knees. Suddenly I felt someone wrap their arms around me and pull me into a comforting embrace. The scent of Cherry Blossoms surrounded me; but I didn't want Cherry Blossoms, I wanted to smell Lilacs. Chloe's scent.

"You knew that she was going to leave." I whispered as Raven comforted me.

"Yes." She replied.

"Why?" I hissed a little my eyes glazing over with venom; tears that would not fall, "why did you let her go?"

"She needs to do this Demetri," Raven responded in her calm tone.

"Will she come back?" I asked regretting the words right away.

"It depends." She replied

"On what?"

"On how strong your love is."
