7- "An usually breakfast"

"Human beings need many things to feel alive: a family, love ... but only one thing is needed to be truly alive: a heart that beats. When the heart is threatened, it reacts in 2 ways: it runs away or you react. You fight or you flee. It's instinct. You can't control it. Or maybe you "

The weekend in Spain had ended wonderfully for the team. Perhaps no one in the box would have expected such a result. The car was improving day by day and everyone was gaining confidence in themselves and in their own means, which also increased the positive thoughts on that season that started not so well. Sophia was happy because they had a few days off as a reward for the good race and the girl could take advantage of it to go home a bit, to her family, which she hadn't seen for too long.

He woke up almost at dawn to better prepare and organize his luggage. Every journey seemed more and more tiring and the bags increasingly heavy. But, as has always been said, he loved this world madly. He looked at himself in the mirror and noticed the small circles on his face. Even that night he couldn't sleep that much. And no, what had happened with Daniel had nothing to do with it. Or at least he hoped. He had only increased his contempt for that boy who apparently seemed so calm and friendly but then, he was anything but. No, he hadn't displaced her at all. Perhaps only that last sentence before leaving left her in mind:

"Watch out for Ricciardo, Sophia, he knows how to keep an eye on you!"

What was a threat? If anything he had to keep a close eye on her and the pilot had already had the necessary demonstrations, and yet what had happened in that small room, then ascertained to be Max's, remained well imprinted in the two boys, aware that he had totally changed their relationship.

He went down to the cafeteria to have breakfast and as he wanted to prove it was half empty due to the time. He took his latte with cocoa and sat down at a table, looking at the sheets he was supposed to update before leaving all the work behind. He had to update the programs of the following days well and match Daniel's personal interviews with those of the team. A little work practically but he had to do it. For a few days he didn't want to have distractions of any kind, he just wanted to enjoy the presence of his family.

At eight o'clock, just as the room began to fill with known and barely awake faces, the place in front of her materialized with a presence on it, which unfortunately she knew well. He said nothing, continued to concentrate on the work to be done, trying not to show the annoyance he felt at that moment.

《Good morning》 Daniel sketched. He realized that he had to take the first step and certainly not the opposite but the girl didn't want to give up anyway.

《Early morning, mh?》He tried to laugh but nothing. Sophia was one of the few not to laugh at her jokes and these people cared little, but she was one of the very few who cared.

《Where will you go these days?》

he asked her again. He had to be able to establish a peaceful relationship with her because he didn't feel he was in conflict with someone who intrigued him so much.

《At my home》
《Really? Where are you from?》

At that point Sophia stopped writing and raised her head quite annoyed by the situation and for the first time since Daniel had sat down their eyes met. He looked him over and could see from his clothes that he had gone out for his usual morning run, and those curls he carried on his pumpkin head were still far more defined on his forehead due to sweat. He saw him sincerely regretted for what had happened but then, thinking about it, nothing had happened to that. Or rather, nothing that could hurt her in any way.

《What do you want, Daniel?》
《I just want to talk, get to know you better. We work together and at least I wish there were no conflicts between us》
《I would like it too, but above all I demand respect and delicacy in things》
《I agree, you're right》

Sophia smiled falsely and went back to writing, not so convinced of that 'truce' that was about to be created between them.

Daniel snorted, he knew it would be difficult but he didn't think so much. He leaned back in his chair and just looked at her as he finished filling out some papers he knew nothing about but probably described his life in a few weeks. He looked at it in minute detail and only then noticed some perfection of his face like his mouth, perfectly heart-shaped with a pink color; his eyes, of a beautiful brown that in the light turned green; some freckles scattered here and there that made her face so charming.

Only then did he realize how good it was to watch her even breathe.
He woke up from the small trance in which he had fallen and mentally recovered for the thoughts he had dared to let into his head.

《Listen Sophia, I wanted to apologize for last night. I mean, it's not a show you had to watch》
《You don't have to apologize for anything, your extra work life doesn't interest me at all》
《I know, and I understand it, but I still felt like I shoulderas to do so》
《Noble gesture on your part, I appreciate it. But now if you don't mind ...》

He didn't finish the sentence because it made him understand that he was seriously working and didn't want distractions. Daniel understood it perfectly and got up annoyed not before throwing yet another cold shower on him:

《You are really impossible》

"Yes, instinct can be very fragile or too ... instinctive. It is a defense mechanism. Nobody invented it. It is innate. It cannot be controlled. Or maybe yes"

Left alone, Sophia was able to return to breathe and to observe that white sheet she had until then tortured, and did not understand the innumerable words written at random only to keep herself busy and not to look into the eyes of those in front of her.

He knew very well that he was an impossible person but he was faithful to his values from an early age. However, he appreciated the gesture made by the pilot but his statements and the expressions he kept sending them did not have an excuse. For those, he could not forgive him. He didn't understand his showing off kindness and fiery arrows at the same time. No, there was no talk of bipolarity here. That boy was really weird and what was most annoying was that he had to work with him.
