Grace's POV

The next few weeks were very awkward between me and Peter. I couldn't help it. After I found out I liked Peter, I could never stop thinking about him. It's really hard to like your best friend. I knew it was hurting Peter, but it was something I had to do.

After school, me and Peter decided to walk to the tower. I never said a word to him, but I could feel his eyes on my head.

When we got off the elevator there, I went straight to my room, locking and closing the door.

After putting my stuff down and changing, I got out my homework.

She heard a knock.

Getting up, I unlocked the door. Peter came in.

"Are you okay? You've been acting really weird these past weeks."

I sighed, what the hell do I do? I can't tell him.

"I'm sorry Peter. I just... have been thinking a lot lately about the thing in me."

"And?"

"What if it never goes away? What if I'm stuck with it forever? What guy will ever want a girl with an evil demon inside her!"

"Grace."

"It's useless! Nothing has worked, it still speaks to me. It's still in my dreams. I will never find someone willing to deal with it."

"Hey!"

Peter grabbed my cheek and turned my face towards him.

"Don't say that. You will find someone to love you. And if someone doesn't, well, screw them! You're an awesome person, an amazing friend, and a strong person. And we will figure something out, I know it."

Friend

The word echoed in my head. My heart broke at that word. I was right, we will never be together.

The rest of the afternoon we did homework together, then Peter had to go home.

The word still was in my mind, and I don't think it will ever leave.

Peter's POV

These past few weeks, Grace has been distant. It bothers me, especially since I have no idea what's wrong. When we were walking to the tower, she didn't say a single thing to me. And once we got there, she went straight to her room.

I wish she would tell me.

After about 5 minutes, I knocked on her door. She opened it, and I came in. He took a deep breath.

"Are you okay? You've been acting really weird these past few weeks."

She thought over it and then answered.

"Hey!"

I grabbed her cheek and turned her face towards me.

"Don't say that. You will find someone to love you. And if someone doesn't, well, screw them! You're an awesome person, an amazing friend, and a strong person. And we will figure something out, I know it."
