Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit.
He ran down the hallway trying to find a hiding place.
'Shit, shit, holy sweet fucking shit, what do I do, what do I do.' He turned down another hall and kept running if he could get to the bathrooms without getting spotted he was safe.
He turned into what they call the indoor park as it had several benches and some plants.
He froze.
Standing at the other end of the indoor park was a man holding a gun, he had his back to the young leader. Gage dove behind a garbage can, his breath hitched inside his throat. He closed his eyes and focused on not making a single sound.
He heard footsteps.
'Oh please for the love of all that is real. Do. Not. Come. Over. Here.'
They got closer and his heartbeat got faster.
Stay quiet.
They stopped. He looked around carefully, standing he took a few careful steps toward the bathroom.
When he was suddenly pulled back. His body went into autopilot and instead of screaming he whipped around and sucker-punched the person beside him.
Which turned out to be Lester, the school security guard.
"Oh, shit Lester I'm so sorry I thou-"
He cut him off.
"Thought I was the shooter it's ok I shouldn't have snuck up on you. Why are you out here anyway"
"Mrs. Flask asked to deliver a note to the office, I was headed back when this happened" he gestured around.
"What about you"
He shrugged.
"Boss told me to look for kids and staff stuck in the halls and make sure they somewhere safe"
"Oh, well that's unnerving"
"Well, at least you didn't run into that guy he doesn't have a small gun like I do he's got like two... and a knife."
Gage looked around nervously. He didn't like this at all. Luckily it was a big school, they were able to talk in slightly lower voices... but they were still a target.
"How about I take you to the library, the ladies there have a little secret entrance you can go in"
Oh, thank goodness.
"Uh y-yeah thanks"
They made their way to the library, quietly and carefully. His heart was going crazy he wasn't sure if he'd ever been so afraid in his life. One wrong turn and it was over.
"Hello there," Lester spun around like a turnstile and whipped his hand to the gun holster.
"Don't. Move."
The man laughed, his black ski mask prevented them from seeing his face, y'know the way it's supposed to be.
"Am I supposed to be afraid of you"
Lester's glare hardened.
"Yes"
He went to grab his gun but the man kicked him in the ribs, Lester retaliated with a quick punch. They went back and forth until the man was knocked to the ground, Lester pinned the man with to the floor. Gage noticed the man reaching for the holster at his waist. Before Gage could say anything Lester had a gun pointed at him.
The man fired.
"LESTER" Gage practically screamed. Lester grabbed his bleeding arm, he groaned in pain as he tried to reach for his gun.
It was kicked away, it slid over to the library door.
"Now..."
He pulled out a knife, grabbing him by the collar of his shirt he raised the knife.
"Die"
The knife went down. Lester closed his eyes awaiting the hit.
BANG
The man cried out in pain as he held his bleeding hand, the knife flew across the room.
"What the fuck!?" Lester turned in confusion.
Gage stood there shaking, tears flowing down his face... holding Lester's gun. He had never been more grateful his uncle was a policeman. The man growled.
"You really think you're tough don't you kid" he took a step closer, Gage tightened his hold on the gun.
"I know how to use this. Down on your knees, hands behind your head. Now."
The man reluctantly complied.
Lester pulled out his radio and contacted one of the policemen outside.
Within minutes they were inside, cuffing the man while paramedics tended to Lester's wound.

Outside he sat in an ambulance next to Lester, wrapped in a blanket holding a small thermos filled with hot cocoa. He was still shaking.
The nurse checked them over and Lester patted him on the shoulder.
"Thanks for saving my life back there kid" Gage smiled at the security guard and held a shaky thumbs-up.
"GAGE"
