“Mom, there’s something else I need to tell you. I’m also pregnant.” I closed my eyes and was awaiting for what was going to happen, either verbally or physically. Instead of what I was expecting, she hugged md and was excited.

I then had to leave but I didn’t go home right away. Instead I drove around Chicago for a while. I seen all of the couples that were happy. I drove faster until I found myself at Desiree and Dylan’s house in Wilmette. Desiree met me at the car and got in. She listened as I told her everything. From the honeymoon to right now.

I spent the night at Desiree’s since Dylan was out of town for Language Abroad or something like that since he’s taking German for a college credit. She helped me just cope with the fact that Noah is gone for a period of time. When I went home the next morning, I found myself just looking through all of the pictures of us during the wedding and our honeymoon. I found a teardrop on one of the pictures and wiped it off.

I got dressed in a pair of skinny jeans and band tee and decided to go shopping. I haven’t did anything like that in ages. I went shopping but didn’t find anything great enough for me to buy except for a few books that scored some of my interest but didn’t buy. Instead I bought a notebook, some pens and pencils, and book. I brought it home and got it ready to ship it to Noah along with a photo album with pictures of us from the wedding, our mini photo shoot, and the honeymoon.

A few days later, I found a letter from Noah reading,

Celeste,

I am so happy that we are going to have a baby together that I actually thought that I was dreaming. I love you so much and I can’t wait to come home and to feel you in my arms again. Being in the army can be pretty lonesome and I started missing you when I boarded on the plane. I thought that you weren’t going to come running to me one last time before I left. I didn’t want to leave either and quite frankly, I’m surprised that they called me in because I haven’t been in the service in a few years. I already found out that I will be getting a leave in about three to four months. So take some pictures of you getting bigger. You are the greatest thing that has ever happened to me, Celeste. I can’t wait to come home.

Love you,

XOXO Noah

I was happy to finally read something from him. I wrote down my letter and I sent it off along with his present from me. Within the next few weeks, I kept taking pictures of my growing belly and sent him letters upon letter. Soon, I received a letter from him saying he would be coming home on leave for two weeks. I was 4 1/2 months pregnant.

I was waiting for him at O’Hare on July 18th and it was 92 degrees outside. I was sweating like a pig, but when I saw Noah looking for me, I ran as fast as I could towards him and hugged him. I kissed him and home now felt like it was home. We walked to our car and when he sat down in the passenger seat, the baby kicked and I slipped out a little hiss. Noah looked down at my belly and said,

“Wow. You still look as ravishing as when I left. Even with a little load on.” He teased but then placed his hand down on my belly and felt the baby kick a little more. His face looked surprised when it kicked a couple times. On the way home, he asked about when I was due, how many, and what gender. It turned out that I was due December 29th, but I didn’t want to know what the gender of our baby was yet.

“Now babe, why don’t you want to know what the sex of our baby is going to be?”

“Well I arranged an appointment for Tuesday, so if you would like to come find out with me, then you can. But I wanted to find out at the same time as you.”

“Well, wouldn’t that be biased because I would know as soon as you would because you would call me, excited to tell me. But that doesn’t matter, I would love to come with. Then we can find out if this baby is gonna be a girl or boy. Together.” He smiled and held my hand as I drove to our humble abode.
