I forgive you

For all the things you did wrong,
When you couldn't piece it all back together,
And when you couldn't take it all back.
You didn't have to be afraid,
You didn't have to be ashamed,
You didn't have to break.

For all the things you should have done,
Even though bitterness held you down.
You should have screamed the words booming in your mind,
You should have run until your feet were sore,
And cried until you had no more tears,
And laughed until your face had wrinkled,
And listened until silence fell.

You didn't but you should have and still, I forgive you.
