16) Invitation

Aziraphale looked at the golden invitation glowing faintly in his hand, surprised. The invitation said that it was a joint ball between heaven and hell, but it couldn't be right, Gabriel would never let any demon set foot in heaven, and it would be agony for a demon to set foot in heaven anyway.

As Aziraphale reached for the door of his bookshop, a familiar voice came from behind him.

"Angel! Did you get it too? Bee-"

"I got it, dear. But be quiet, there are humans here."

Aziraphale held the door as Crowley sauntered into the bookshop, holding a wrinkled silver invitation.

"As I was saying, angel, Beelzebub seemed quite annoyed."

Aziraphale shut the door behind him, turning to look at the demon.

"He would be. Gabriel just asked him to go as partners."

Crowley's mouth hung open.

"I know, dear, the hypocrite. He tried to kill us when we even talked to each other."

Aziraphale chuckled, gently pushing Crowley's mouth shut. The two joked together for a few minutes until Crowley had an idea.

"Then, angel, couldn't we, technically, go as partners?"

Aziraphale blushed, looking down at the floor, panicking.

"What do you say, then?"

Crowley looked worriedly at the stunned angel.

"Well... Crowley, dear, I guess..."

The angel blushed again looking up at Crowley.

"Well, I guess, technically, we could."

Aziraphale wrapped his arms around the demon.

"I love you so much, dear."

Aziraphale mumbled, his voice muffled.

"You too, angel. And shouldn't we go get our outfits?"
