Lukas woke up to see me leaning next to a palm tree watching the sunrise. He walked up to me.
Lukas: "Jesse?"
Jesse: "Hey Lukas."
Lukas: "You feeling better?"
Jesse: "Better? No. Awake? Sort of."
Lukas: "You ready to get Reuben back?"
Jesse: "I don't know anymore, Lukas."
Lukas: "What?"
Jesse: "It's probably too late."
My eyes filled with tears. Lukas looked at me in the eye.
Lukas: "No, Jesse! I will not let you give up! It's my fault we're in this mess! We have come so far! Friends don't quit!"
He hugged me.
Lukas: "We will find him! We will save him!"
I hugged him.
Lukas: "I promise."
I stumbled over to the others. My legs were still really weak.
Jesse: "Wake up, Guys! We're going to save Reuben!"
I looked over my shoulder to see Lukas smiling at me. I smiled back.
