Logan had read an article that said Virgil was receiving care in a hospital in Atlanta. The article didn't elaborate beyond 'critical condition,' which annoyed Logan, but the article said that Virgil had been hit by a car.
Logan had frantically called the hospital to ask about visiting hours and ask if Virgil was even allowed visitors.
The lady on the other end had told him that Virgil was allowed visitors and that visiting hours were 11:00-8:00.

The lady that had informed Logan about Virgil's state had called to tell him that he was cleared for visiting and that he could stop by anytime during visiting hours.
Virgil's state: coma. Near-dead. The nurse had explained to Logan that Virgil had suffered serious pelvic breaks.
Logan visited every day, driving to Atlanta from Macon right after school.
He had made it a routine. Leave school, drive, talk to Virgil for a few hours, then drive home.
He repeated the routine for 31 days.
