"When I calmed down, I couldn't go back," Giles whispered.
"OK," Aries said in a calm voice despite his inner yelling. Something he had been practising since this had all gone down. The Vitruvian Collective's medical circle didn't like it any more than the Republic of Adam's. With the Republic, his reputation and skills had meant he could still work. Vitruvian were a little less forgiving. They didn't acknowledge the fact he had worked as a Doctor for fifteen years other than to state he had too much knowledge to be wasted. Otherwise, he was treated like an intern.
"OK? Aries, I ran away from the compound and when they find me ..." Giles wailed, tears starting to fall.
"You are one of their charges," Aries reminded. "And an underage one at that. They aren't going to hurt you for having a nightmare. Escaping is a different matter but you weren't doing it to escape and start a rebellion. That may help your case."
"But..."
"Giles, breathe. For now, there is nothing we can do. My roommate is on the night shift so you can sleep in my bed tonight. We will come up with a plan in the morning," Aries reassured, already having one in mind.
"You're going to contact them, aren't you?" Giles whispered.
"I don't think I have a choice. We either tell them where you are, or we wait for one to appear to check you aren't here. Which would you prefer?" Aries asked honestly. "At least if we call, I can tell them you're spending the night."
Aries was starting to wonder if Giles was going to bit through his lip. There was a look in the boy's eyes, a look Aries had seen many times since this had all happened. The conflicts of the adult mind and child instincts. Eventually, Giles slumped. "Call them," he whispered. Aries nodded and pulled Giles over to sit on the bed. Giles curled into Aries side and dialled the number dutifully when Aries gave him the phone.
After a few rings, someone answered. "Sunbee's Care Centre, how may I help you?" the tone sweet but there was a dash of tenseness there. Aries looked down at Giles who nodded sleepily. Aries guessed it made sense that there was a false cover for the organisation.
"I guess that's one thing you guys do," Aries mused.
"Excuse me, sir?" The voice said, turning more suspicious.
"It's Wyatt Aries," Aries stated calmly, rubbing Giles' shoulder. "I'm calling to state my teammate will be staying with me tonight."
"Teammate... Oh! Good. Please wait a moment," the voice said before the line clicked off. Aries waited patiently before the lined clicked again. "Master Baiaror will talk to you know," the voice said cheerfully. The line went dead again before a deep voice answered.
"Dr Aries," Baiaror acknowledged. "You have our runaway then?"
"Yes, Giles is here," Aries agreed, eyes narrowing. He didn't know Baiaror. It had been one of the small one caretakers who had been with Giles when they had first seen each other after everything went down. He had never met the man during the war either. So being called Doctor when he was not currently recognized as such was an interesting move. "I think it will be best if he stays the night."
