A cold gush of wind hit me, lifting my hair with it. The massive stone walls surrounded me on both sides. Droopy vines were scattered on the ground and some hanging above me.
What the heck did I just do...
Panic filled my body. Every inch of my being knew what I had just done was beyond stupid.
A big part of me wanted to just sit down in the corner and cry for how unbelievably idiotic I had been. But I calmed myself down. I had run in here to help the others. To help Thomas. Therefore, there was no time for me to be scared now.
I forced my legs to start moving, running out of the familiar corridor.
"Thomas!" - I yelled, hoping they might be nearby.
I turned a corner. Then another. And another after that.
It felt like no matter how far I ran, it all looked the same.
"Thomas!" - I continued calling out for him. In the back of my mind, I knew making noise wasn't a good idea. But finding them quietly would be impossible for me.
I continued running for, what felt like a long time. I began noticing the space around me starting to get bigger as if the walls drifted further apart.
My feet stopped since I now had reached a big open area.
7? Like in sector 7?...
A large red number seven was painted on one of the biggest walls I had ever seen. The wall had an opening in the middle, just like the maze's entrance.
So, this is what Thomas meant by "Sector 8". I understand now why he and Minho were so tired when they got back. It feels like I've been running for hours to get here...
A loud skittering noise came from behind me. I turned around, expecting to see something, anything. But nothing was there.
Okay... I should keep moving.
My legs proceeded to lead me on. Instead of going in through sector 7, I took my chances and hoped they would be somewhere closer to where I had started.
I kept running for what felt like forever until I heard low voices whispering up ahead.
"Thomas?" - The voices immediately ceased. Footsteps clicked and before I knew it someone came around the corner.
"Thomas!" - I rushed over to him and hugged him as tightly as I could.
I let go of him again to look at his face. His face was pale and covered in sweat, clearly indicating he had been running a lot.
However, I was taken aback by his expression. He looked like he had seen a ghost. Or more like I was the ghost.
"Y/N?! What are you doing here!? - He grabbed my upper arm, pulling me behind the wall where I saw Minho sitting on the ground. He was tying vines around Alby, who laid beside him, unconscious.
Minho dropped the vines as his eyes met mine. He looked just as surprised as Thomas.
"What the shuck is she doing here?! - Minho glanced up at Thomas who was just as confused by my presence.
"I ran out here to help you..."
"You can't help us "- Minho's voice was silent. He sounded hopeless.
"What?.. There has to be something I can..." - The look in Minho's eyes stopped me.
"Y/N, no one has ever survived a night in the maze. So unless you can fly, we're already dead..." - Minho tied a final knot on the vines surrounding Alby.
Not until now had I noticed him lying unconscious on the ground.
"Alby?! What happened to him?!" - I leaned over Alby's limp body. His shirt was bloody, and his chest rose up and down as he took short quick breaths.
"He got stung... I tried to drag him out of the way but..." - Thomas said, looking over at Alby, avoiding my eyes.
"We're going to suspend him up from those vines" - Minho pointed up at the wall covered in loose vines.
∼ Time Skip∼
Thomas started tying the vine to hold Alby up. Minho walked around, pacing back and forth.
"We're running out of time" - Minho's breathing was quick. His eyes jumped between Thomas and the multiple corners the wall we were standing by turned in to.
Thomas' arms jerked outwards as he pulled on the knot, fixing it in place. Yet as he got up from the ground, a loud skittering noise came from behind us.
I've heard that before...
Minho's expression turned to absolute terror.
"We gotta go. We gotta go now!"
