The day was coming to an end, and Newt proceeded to show me where I would sleep, now that Alby was done showing me around.
The glade turned out to be much bigger than I had originally thought.
"Here's your hammock Greenie" Newt patted one of the wooden pillars holding the hammock. "Since you're the first girl... you'll have to sleep next to the other guys for a few days, at least until we make you a separate area" He looked at me slightly apologetic.
Sleeping sounds nice about now...
I didn't mind not having my own place. Having somewhere comfortable to lay down already felt like a luxury.
"Don't worry about it" I gave Newt a reassuring smile and sat down in the hammock.
The fabric was dense and on the stiffer side, giving me no need to worry if it couldn't support me. "Newt? Why am I the only girl here?" I asked, getting back up from the hammock.
He opened his mouth to answer, when a loud sound came from nowhere.
I crouched down and held my ears, confused at what was happening. I looked up at Newt, whom I expected to react like me.
Instead he seemed unfazed, as he grabbed my hand and pulled me up.
"Come see!" He said, speaking loudly for me to hear him. He pulled me away from the hammocks and out on the grass.
The Metallic creaking sounds came from the massive opening in the wall. slowly the sides of the opening narrowed - closing the opening off.
A loud smash came from the two walls meeting, and the opening was gone.
"It always closes at this time of day" Newt talked like it was normal.
I starred at the wall trying to comprehend what I had just seen. "How... how does it close like that?!.."
Rocks shouldn't be able to move so easily... and why would it need to close anyway?!.
Newt placed a hand on my shoulder and turned me towards the hammock. "I'll explain later Greenie."
Right before sleeping, the guys that slept beside me told stories of how their first day in the glade had been;
"I cluncked my pants three times before Gally got me out of the box" Told Chuck, clearly a bit embarrassed. We all laughed as we laid in our hammocks. The storytelling continued for a few minutes until three of the guys were dying of laughter.
The sun was finally gone and I was extremely tired. The kid named Chuck and some of the others, whose names I had lost, said goodnight.
Remembering all the different names was a bit of a task. Although some of them I had no trouble with at all.
Newt and Alby I had no trouble remembering, since I had spent most of the day by their side.
Chuck I would probably not forget either, though his story may have been the cause of that.
Newt, Alby, Chuck, Thomas... Wait what?
I turned in my hammock.
Thomas... why can I remember his name?..
Newt had introduced him as the former Greenie, and they had seemed to be good friends.
Thinking of him now, I recalled him giving me the same familiar feeling Newt did when he got me down from the tree.
As if I knew his name before he said it.
My eyes turned heavy as I slowly fell asleep, their names still swirling around in my mind.
