Asleep

I woke up to bright white walls and a nurse dressed in bleach white clothes her teeth shining brightly at me. "Glad you're okay." She told me her smile staying wide and joyful. "Julie is in labour." She said her smile dropping. "Doctor says with all of her pre-pregnancy problems she may not make it.."

I'd officially woken up by the time she told me the last bit my head spinning again from the rush of me sitting up. "How long have I..?" I asked looking at her.

"We've had you asleep for almost three days because you're lungs we're under too much stress and you would've died." She paused thinking what to say next. "Plus Julie has asked you of something but  it will only matter if she..." She lets her head hang down with the last few words dragging a feeling of dread with them. "only if she dies." She finished looking up at me a surprised look on her face when she saw I was standing up.

"Take me to her please." I said my voice cracking in the middle of it. I clenched my hands into fists my breaths short and sharp as I forced myself not to cry, by the time we arrived in front of Julie's room it was empty. I hit my hand on the door and let tears poor down my face as I slid down the cold metal door. I sat there alone for a while crying for as long as I could before my lungs began to cry in pain. Afterwords I just sat there staring at the light grey walls, and the kids drawing stapled against them in random positions that went along a label reading 'Can you see yourself as a parent? Well you're in luck, walk to room 305 and pick up Adoption Papers now!' with the most cheesy drawing next to it which I made when I was five. The drawing made me smile because back then I believed the drawing was priceless and anyone would love it. Julie loved it so much she gave me five dollars for it and hung it on the wall for everyone to see. That's what started the art wall and I'm proud of it because it gives kids hope, it gives them a goal while they are sitting in here.

"Alex?" A sweet voice said looking at me. I turned and saw Julie. Still pregnant. What?

"Julie!" I cried and jumped to my feet hugging her the stress lifting off my chest.

"Why are you here?" she asked me pushing me enough to look into my eyes.

"Lenny said you we're in labour." I told her as we shared a confused look.

"I'm not due for another month babe." She said with a shake of her head. "and Lenny was fired last week for unexplained absences so what actually happened?"

"I'm not lying!" I protested "I saw Lenny in the oxygen room and she told me I was put under for three days." I told her.

"Three days? Oxygen room? Alex you were claimed dead." She told me her eyes saddening.

"What.." I said backing away.

"Your heart stopped and the doctors gave up after thirty minutes of CPR" she explained but I shook my head ignoring her.

"I wanna wake up now!" I cried as the hospital walls began to drip like wax. The grey paint being replaced by a dark brooding black. The white floor fading away to black leaving me standing alone in the dark all communication cut off from me. I took a seat and hugged my knees. "Please wake me up.. Please"

"Alex!" A male voice bounced around the black space around me making me poke up my head.

"Jack!" I whispered to the familiar voice tears stinging my eyes.

"Alex it's Leo! Wake Up"

My breathing stopped a buzz of electricity sent my heart into motion but I remained there curled in a ball reminding myself that Jack wouldn't be there when I wake up. Jack is probably at home already, happy that he won't have to deal with me anymore because I pissed him off.

Jack Johnson's POV

"Ugh I can't believe it." I told G after declining another one of Alex's calls.

"Dude what happened?" he asked sitting me down on the couch next to him.

"Alex was in her bed with another man" The words came out like ice, stabbing my heart for the final time.

"Are you sure it was a man?"

"Yes she was all curled into his side and she was asleep" I hissed standing up "She's just like all the others."

"Jay did you at least let her explain?"

I turned to G and faced the floor. "Fuck.." I mumbled under my breath bolting upstairs to my bedroom. I quickly got my bank card and got changed into a white T-shirt and black jeans,  I ran my hand through my hair and opened my door to see G standing there.

"That was fast." He said with a chuckle.

"I have to apologize." I said quickly trying to get past him.

"Just, with girls Jay you can't judge anything to quickly." He told me before stepping out of the way. I nodded and ran outside calling an uber and heading for the hospital.
