Two years. That's how long Annabeth waited for her soulmate mark to appear.

She was the first one in her class to learn how to write. Her teacher was very surprised that she learned how to write so fast as most kids learn to write when they are three, and Annabeth was only two years old. She was also amazed because Annabeth's handwriting was way neater than what the teacher had expected.

That day, when Annabeth went back home, she immediately narrated the incident to her dad with a huge smile on her face. After all, it was  the first time her teacher had complimented her in front of the entire class. (Spoiler: It was definitely not the last time.) Annabeth's dad just laughed amusedly at her excitement and ruffled her hair.

"It's because you are an over-achiever," he said with a twinkle in his eye.

Annabeth didn't understand what it meant, but she nodded along, basking in all the praises. Her dad knelt down on his knees so that he was face to face with her. "Your soulmate will have a tattoo of your beautiful handwriting. I am sure he already knows that you are knows that you the best."

Annabeth grinned at her dad. Soulmates were an important part of everybody's life. Annabeth hadn't gotten her tattoo yet, but she wasn't too worried. Her teacher had told that others learn to write when they are three so she figured that her mark would appear when she was around three years old.

Annabeth anxiously waited, but even after she turned three her mark didn't appear. Few of her classmates had already gotten their marks. By the time she had turned four, she was starting to lose hope. Mostly everyone in her class had gotten their marks. Clarisse started teasing Annabeth about how no one wanted to be her soulmate. However, Annabeth knew that it wasn't true. Scientists had told that every single person had a soulmate including her.

Annabeth was nearly turning five when one day she woke up to find some sort of scratch on her index finger. Annabeth rushed to the bathroom and tried to scrub it off. When it still didn't go, Annabeth rushed to her father. Her father examined it and then broke into a smile. "That isn't a scratch on your finger Beth, that's your soulmate mark!"

Annabeth dumbfoundedly stared at the mark. How on earth was that someone's handwriting? Her dad explained saying that her soulmate was probably just learning to write and that it would get better with time. Satisfied with that explanation, Annabeth went up to her room to examine it properly. She spent hours staring at it but she still couldn't decipher what was written. Annabeth didn't mind it. If her soulmate had trouble learning, she would teach him how to do everything. That's what soulmates were for, right?

On her fifth birthday, Annabeth woke up to a nice birthday gift. Her soulmate had improved his handwriting! Squinting, Annabeth read the word out aloud.

"Swimming."

Annabeth rushed to her dad once again to tell him about it. She jumped around with happiness for some time, much to her dad's amusement. Annabeth couldn't wait to meet her soulmate.

That night she sent a prayer to god. 'Please make me meet my soulmate soon.'
