The Faithful and True

THE FAITHFUL AND TRUE:

And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war.
Revelation 19:11

I love God's titles. They speak of His comfort (2 Cor. 1: 3-4), of His might (Isaiah 1:24), and just so many good things about Him.

Very recently, I have become drawn to His name of "Faithful and True".

I've been having a rough go. My friends have been having a rough go. No words seem to suffice in describing it. Spiritual warfare is a very real, visceral thing. There have been times when I have lost so much hope and could not find anything in myself to keep going.

Yet, Jesus is the Faithful and True.

"Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
(Matthew 11: 28-30)

How can I trust that when everything feels like it's falling apart? I can because He who said this is Faithful and True.

"and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one."
(John 10: 28-30)

How can I trust that God will not let go of any of His children? He who said this is Faithful and True.

"For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
(Romans 8: 38)

How can I trust that not even death will separate us from God? It is because Jesus is the Faithful and True, "and His name is called The Word of God." (Revelation 19: 13)

"I have loved you with an everlasting love;
Therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness."
(Jeremiah 31: 3)

How can I trust that God loves me, even when many times, I cannot love myself? It is because He who said this is Faithful and True.

"He will again have compassion on us;
He will tread our iniquities under foot.
Yes, You will cast all their sins
Into the depths of the sea."
(Micah 7: 19)

"'Come now, and let us reason together,'
Says the LORD,
'Though your sins are as scarlet,
They will be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They will be like wool."
(Isaiah 1: 18)

How can I trust that God will remove our sins as far away from us? It is because He who declares this is Faithful and True.

"Even to your old age I will be the same,
And even to your graying years I will bear you!
I have done it, and I will carry you;
And I will bear you and will deliver you."
(Isaiah 46: 4)

"'Fear not, for you will not be put to shame;
And do not feel humiliated, for you will not be disgraced;
But you will forget the shame of your youth,
And the reproach of your widowhood you will remember no more.
'For your husband is your Maker,
Whose name is the LORD of hosts;
And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel,
Who is called the God of all the earth."
(Isaiah 54: 4-5)

How can I trust that God will bear with me, and remove all the shame of my past, even when they glare so strongly at me, even when I cannot bear with myself? He who has said this is Faithful and True.

I can keep going on and on.

It's easy to recite the promises of God. It's easy to say the wonderful things about Him, and the wonderful things that He gives to His children. And sometimes, this means that we gloss over these, because we become familiar with them; and when the rain falls, when the flood rises, and the winds blow, we start to think, "What gives?".

But we can hold fast to each and every one of His words, because He stands by them. We cannot stand by things all the time. We ourselves falter. Our God never falters. He is true to His word.

"I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?"(John 11: 25-26)

Yes, because He who said this is Faithful and True.
