Lucas's pov
Dead. How could she be dead. Then who is Maya living with? Wait why do I even care about what happens to her? All my thoughts stop when i realize i'm pulling up to my house. I park and take a deep breath.
"I'm home" I yell once I walk through the door
"Wucas" I hear my little sister yell, she runs over and hugs my legs. I pick her up and swing her around and she giggles
"Hi Jenna" I say to my 3 year old sister. I set her down and she runs somewhere
"Hey Lucas" my mom say walking out of the kitchen
"Hi mama" I walk over and kiss her on the cheek "oh are you making cookies" me and my mom are really close
"I am" she say with a smile
"Um can I talk to you about something" I ask her
"Of course what is it" she stops what she's doing and turns to look at me
"You remember Maya right"
"Of course I do, you guys used to unseperatable"
"Yea well I talked to her today and..." I trail off and rub the back of my neck
"Yea..." my mom says encouraging me to go on
"I found out that her mom died" I say looking away
"What?" my mom has this look of disbelief. My mom and Maya's mom has been best friends since 8th grade. They did everything together, so it was perfect when they had kids at the same time who also became best friends. When Maya and I stopped talking they kinda grew apart too
"Ka-Katy is gone" my mom looks lost and she plops down in a chair
"Yea" I take a seat next to hear and grab her hand for comfort.
"Um can you just take the cookies out when they're done please" I nod. She takes off her apron and walks upstairs
"I'm sorry" I whisper even though I have no idea who it's for
