Your felt your face visibly plummet as far as your stomach as a hulking figure of two hundred pounds or more strolled in pleasantly. If his features didn't betray his body type, you would've mistaken the guy as a walking marshmallow. But no, fate decided a second fedora-donned skeleton to stroll on through like he owned the joint. Visions of street-side Prince-Charming abruptly crumbled away.

He had a gruff, rugged appeal to him despite his gentlemanly attire, large crack in his skull and larger canines in his grin that widened, glinting gold as soon as he was fully in the door. His very appearance screamed 'criminal'. His narrow, crimson-pricked sockets scoped the stiff restaurant as he sighed contently, straightening his jacket in a fluid snap before he strode over to the counter, lifting a finger to gently ring the bell that crushed under his touch, the bell giving out a broken shriek: "Ah, shit-!"

The figure clicked his tongue under his breath, a hissing sound before reaching into his breastpocket, fumbling about until he gave a small 'ah' of satisfaction. He plucked out a large cigar before chomping down on it, using his index finger that glowed a violent shade of red, a flame of the same colour flickering from his fingertip, lighting the cigar. He took a drag before exhaling, a low growl in his throat as he smirked. "Well there's always the old fashioned way-" He mused before raising his head towards the kitchen, grin as wide as knives are sharp: "Eyyy Grillby!!" He bellowed jovially, causing an uncharacteristic little 'meep!' from the kitchen.

This made the figure sneer in a way you could only describe as sadism, extending his thick, skeletal hand in a powerful thrust that made the doors to the kitchen burst open with invisible force. Grillby's yelp approached quickly as he was pulled towards the stranger, a red ring like a vice around Grillby's heart, Grillby slamming into the front counter with a choked cry that made you jolt from where you stood. The nerve of this guy! You took a step to approach before a hand- a bony hand— gripped your shoulder. You threw a look to the 'doctor' over your shoulder who only shook his head at you, forcing you to stay in place helplessly.

Grillby fell weakly against the surface of the counter before lifting his head shakily to meet the gaze of the stranger who had begun to leisurely lean against the surface, smirking skull still poised on Grillby. "Heya old chump!" He began in cheerful baritone that sent an uneasy shiver down your spine. You didn't like it one little bit. "I do believe ya owe us a lil overdue fees..." he gestured, rubbing his thick-boned fingers together, suggesting Grillby had some dosh to cough up. "Just because we're— buddies, it don't mean ya don't have to pay-! Come on, I don't wanna make a scene..!" The figure barked out a laugh that you might've found attractive coming from someone less violent and far-less arrogant.

"Well-I-uh..." Grillby began nervously, unusual for the normally laid-back persona of the quivering fire demon. "You see... Our stock was backed up cause one of our trucks-" "Fee." The skeleton growled lethally, causing Grillby to jolt before clearing his throat, turning his head towards you:
"(Y-Y/N)??? Would you b-be a dear and go fetch a box out back labelled 'Tax' for me sweetheart? Atta girl!" He stammered, his shaking subsiding a little as he glanced at you with a thumbs up.

You froze as you felt the skeleton turn towards you. You couldn't look. Your breath stored itself in your lungs for what seemed forever as you gave a curt nod to Grillby, ignoring the intrigued stare the gruff figure was giving you as you scurried past towards the kitchen door. As soon as you fled the room, Grillby felt the stare turn to him, looking up as the skeleton's face flashed with a hint of curiosity.

"Who was that??" He asked lowly, Grillby relieved that the attention had been pulled away from him. His head would not be further pummled into the counter, for now. "That's the new girl (Y/N)," Grillby began, getting back some strength to his voice. He watched as wonder washed over the skeleton's features, Grillby could see the little wheels of interest starting to whirl in that skull of his, almost virtually seeing the immense liking to your name. Grillby continued bravely, hoping to please, let alone distract his imminent punisher; "She began two weeks ago, sweet thing, she's rather popular with the monsters-"

The figure glared, sending Grillby a withering look. "Stay put." Grillby froze, chuckling nervously as the skeleton retreated. "A-Alrighty then!" He squeaked, proceeding to count his blessings as the figure stalked in after you. The skeleton in question had never really taken a shining to a person so immediate as this, let alone a human, it was unnatural. It had him curious. The kitchen was deserted and clean for the most part- messes Grillby purposely made to keep you busy. His shoes clacked against the checker-board tiles in echo as he glanced around the space. That was when he heard muttering from the pantry.

It was soft and feminine, presumably yours. He rounded the corner- bingo, there you were, in amongst the dark, looming shelves that seemed to swallow you. "'Tax', 'tax', 'tax'—! This is impossible! Why is Grillby even payin' that thug?!" You sighed, the sound airy to the skeleton that was towering behind you. You continued your whispering rant- until you noticed the shadow leaning in towards you. You turned. "Evenin'" it tipped it's hat. You screamed, clutching the shelves behind your back as you reared away. The skeleton looked amused, smirk wide.

You could be civil- you could be civil-!! You swallowed. "I'm- I'm so sorry-! W-Was there something you needed sir?" You attempted. He was cornering you in like those fellas down on west side- He leaned an arm lazily against the doorway, draining in that nervous look. Your eyes had finally met his- he knew what he wanted. He grinned. "Just takin' in Grilbz' employee of the month-!" You offered him a shaky grin. "I... I'm sorry it's taking so long, I'll be just one minute." You apologised. You immediately prayed to whatever god was up there that he would leave. Your request was shot down. "Take all the time you need, I'll be right here." He smirked. You gave him another grin- you turned and it dropped.

You could feel sockets on your butt.

You turned again, pink, his grin wide. "U-uh...." Time for a more prompt approach. "You could sit down outside if you want- I'm sure Grillby can show you a seat! It must be terribly uncomfortable standing!" You offered. He laughed in your face. "I'm fine standing sweets- yer too damn polite." You turned again. He was staring- wasn't he? Indeed he was, sockets trained on you as he began to imagine your figure draped in lavish things- lace, pearls— only to dive into darker territory which included ripping off your work clothes and bending you over to slam you into the pantry.

He liked the second better.

"Are you free tonight?" He blurted. It was your turn to laugh. "What makes you think I'm free?" Was he serious? He ignored you, continuing. "Say you were free— Would you wanna come out tonight? We coullllddd- get to know each other?" he drawled. He was serious. Your mood immediately plummeted back to earlier nervousness- you weren't prepared for this. You tried to find away to approach this delicately, words forming only to melt away to nothingness. By the time you glanced up to meet his gaze, he was gone.

"How much?"

Grillby gulped, previous shaking returned along with the skeleton. "P-Pardon?" He swallowed weakly. The cigarette ground with a crunch against the skeleton's teeth, Grillby sensing the impatience. "How. Much?" The figure growled. "...For??" "THE GIRL YOU IDIOT!!" The skeleton seethed, pounding a fist against the counter. The cafe jolted at the contact, cowering. "COME SIT SANS, NOW YOU'VE FINISHED YOUR PLAYDATE IN THE KITCHEN CABINET, WE HAVE TO TALK BUISNESS..." 'Sans' turned his head towards the figure that spoke, his attention now on the thin figure, back turned.

Sans let out a protesting grumble before the figure clicked snappily, pointing with silent attitude at the empty barstool next to him. Sans let out a gruff sigh before dropping Grillby abruptly with a glare to join the figure. "Haha, yeah! We'll uh- talk about this later??" Grillby called after him from under the counter, a sulky grunt being the only response. "It was nice chattin' to ya!" It was then that you shuffled out awkwardly, puffing as you struggled with the large-ish crate embossed: 'TAX'.
"Grillby-!!" You strained, face flushed as you noticed him on the floor, half-praying he wasn't dead.

"Mmn??" He hummed motionless, you huffing in relief before scoping the cluttered counter: "Where... did you want this???" "Man in the corner's sweetie, I'm sure you know who that is by now.." Your scalding sweat suddenly turned cold. You didn't want to go over there. On your life you didn't want to go over. Your knees would give way and send you through the window before you went over there. "I can't-" you began.

"Do you want this job Bub?" You blinked, silent before he repeated. "I asked, 'do you want this job'??" He asked, you shaking: "Yes sir," "Then get going lovely." You stared at him momentarily before you straightened.

You needed this job more than anything, and no big-talking, bell-slamming, tub of a skeleton was going to take it away from you.
