EDWARD POV
I could see him from where I was standing in the back, behind the rabid crowd. The venue was packed from end to end with fans of ✩IMPRINT✩. The grungy, distorted guitar chords were blasting through the amps and I could feel the kick drum in my chest. The vocals were harsh and full of raw emotion. I wished I'd brought earplugs. Not to mention, of course, that he was there. The drummer of the band, Jacob Black. He was sweating through his dark grey tank top, his skin glistening under the stage lights. I turned my head to the side, trying to hold back my disgust.
"Did we have to come here?" I said bitterly, "This is a waste of time."
"I forgot you never leave the house without a stick up your ass," Jasper said, ducking slightly to avoid the foot of an oncoming crowd-surfer. "Try and have fun for once, asshole. Maybe then people will want to hang out with you."
"Says the guy who had no one else to invite to this but me," I shot back.
"Damon is here too!" Jasper motioned over to our bandmate. He was bent over a table with his credit card in hand. I saw lines of coke on the table.
"Great company."
"It'll be over soon. Then you can go back to jerking off in the privacy of your own home instead of being here with a ton of potential hookups." As if I could do that. The damage to our pristine boy band image would be traumatic to teenage fans across the country. Century XIX had been rising on the charts as of late, and while I loved the paycheck, the stifling restrictions were admittedly starting to get to me.
I turned my attention back to the noise in front of me. The song had reached its climax, and Jacob's drumming took a furious turn, I could barely keep track of his hands.
Jacob and I had a bit of a shared history. We'd been friends in highschool, but due to some... artistic differences, we'd decided to part ways once and for all. It wasn't a clean break, but it was a necessary one. Had I known the invitation to an "underground club" Jasper had given me was for an ✩IMPRINT✩ concert, I never would have come. The last time Jacob and I had met up at one of these things, it hadn't gone well. We needed more than a little PR intervention to smooth things over. Jasper had a tendency to rile things up though, so I wasn't surprised. Maybe I should just go.
"Yo, wake the fuck up" Damon said, punching my arm. "I've been calling you for like, an hour." I stared blankly at him. He wiped the sweat off of his forehead, looking a little less than sober.
"What do you want?"
"Jasper and I are gonna hang out with the ✩IMPRINT✩ guys after their show. Are you coming or what?"
I shook my head, "I'm going to go back to the hotel. This show gave me a migraine." Damon laughed at that.
"You're really not fun at all. But whatever, man. Don't do anything I wouldn't do." He winked.
"That won't be hard..." My reply was drowned out by the sudden eruption of cheering from the crowd, as the members all lined up to throw the leftover guitar picks and drumsticks. The guitarist, Seth, waved, obviously to us. Jacob's gaze followed his band-mate's and- he met my eyes. I suddenly turned to study the posters on the wall. My face burned. How embarrassing.
"I'm going to head out." I said to no one in particular, and made my way to the exit.
