"Write about a rock or gemstone meaning."

Rocks, stones, minerals; man had managed to make gemstones out of all of them. Seems funny and futile, just because a mineral has a crystalline structure that can be cut to many facets, which in turn cause it to reflect and refract light and make them shine, we call them gems. And love and hate for those stones, even to the extent of killing their fellow humans. But then you cannot really blame them, too, the crystalline stones really sparkle and look so good, with vivid colours and brilliant shine. So brilliant they shine that we almost forget what exactly they are:

A diamond and the coal share the same elemental makeup - both are carbon

Quartz (silicon dioxide) yields a large number of gemstones, depending on which mineral impurity is present can form Amethyst, Ametrine, Citrine, and Morion.

Beryl is beryllium silicate and can be clear as well as various colors. Clear beryl is sometimes called goshenite, the bluish variety is aquamarine, red beryl may sometimes be called bixbyite, green beryl is better known as emerald, yellow/yellow-green beryl is heliodor, and pink beryl is known as morganite.

But then it is not only minerals that can be treated as gem stones - certain rocks can also be treated as a gem stone, the most common being lapis lazuli. And then there are some organic materials which have been accorded gemstone status, amber and coral.

So while nature had never intended why a certain mineral or a rock or a material is a gemstone, we humans have been inventive and possessive over them.
