Less Than a Decade Ago

Maybe
you thought
that things were going
to go back
to how they were
in middle school,
she guessed.
But that was not
what I thought at all.
I hoped
for a minute or two,
but I never held on to that
because
I knew that things
never go back to being the same.
Things can be similar,
but they can never be the same.
They never were the same.
