I step closer to the broken mirror. I open the container to find two perfectly dark brown almost black contacts. I open the container and lay it on the counter next to me. I pick one contact and place it into my eye. Slightly pushing too hard my redden and the contact lands on my eyebrow.
Ouch.
I place it on my finger and this time slowly slide it inside my eye. I then pick the second contact and slide it into the other eye.
I look into the mirror my eyes a nice dark brown.
Much better.
I notice the rain has returned to a drizzle. But the sirens are still in proximity. Maybe slightly louder even.
I look back into the mirror. Strands of my ponytail behind my hoodie have turned a silvery blue.
Just great.
I dig through my backpack again and this time find a bottle. I set it on the counter next to the empty container. This is the must permanent black hair dye I could find and yet my hair still seems to turn its natural color.
I pull back my hood and pull my long hair out of its high ponytail. I rake my hand through my hair in an attempt to detangle some knots. After a few minutes, I dig through my bag again and find a small box with one pair of plastic gloves left.
I set my bag on the floor and start the long process of darkening my hair. Drenching my hair in the black dye and using every last drop the bottle is empty. I put my hair in a high bun. Then, rip my gloves off and stuff them into the empty box.
I look in the mirror. I look somewhat normal now. Although my clothes are semi drenched in water. I picked my backpack and continued to walk around the small building. It seems to be an old restaurant or something.
Whatever this place it looks forgotten. So hopefully that means nobody will find me.
I pick up my backpack and place the straps on my back and continue to walk around. When my legs begin to cramp again I sit down on a counter and rest my head on my hands.
Just rest a little.
Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap
Nothing but you and rain.
Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap
Just as my eyes are about the close I am snapped awake by a familiar creak.
Somebody's here.
"Are you sure the guys here? Seems empty." says one voice.
Another voice says "Yeah I can sense it."
Footsteps.
I slowly and quietly get off the counter. I quietly make my way to where I remember the exit is.
A more feminine voice says "Why so many police on this mutant"
The first voice says "It's a mutant do they really need any reason"
The second voice I heard says "Marcos is right. Anything mutant is bad to them."
I am maneuvering towards the back door where I came from. Just a few more steps. Almost the-
Squeakkkk
Shit. I bumped into the chair.
"Hello?" says the first voice they identify as Marcos.
"Split up to find her" says the first voice.
I walk very fastly towards the back door. Hiding behind the corner I see they are still in the doorway. Dang. I wait for them to move. Come on, move.
I think they are gone now so I remove myself from the corner.
I am walking and begin to reach for the nob.
"Hey" says Marcos.
I freeze.
"Don't think you waa go out there and get drenched."
I turn around and face the body that belongs to the voice.
I grab the nearest thing to me and throw it. I missed
"Calm down" he yells
I grab a chair and he says "Woahhhhhhh" with his hands up.
A girl with short green hair enters next to Marcos
She says "I thought John said it was a guy." when she sees me raise the chair higher she continues "Calm down we're here to help."
I give an unconvinced look. I am about to throw the chair when the metal bars are pulled from my grip and hovered in front of the girl.
She says "My names Lorna and I'm just a mutant trying to help"
