Taemin's friends didn't notice, he was great at hiding away his pain. When they seemed suspicious, Taemin just shrugged it off saying that he was just tired. He would smile and say that everything is fine, and they would believe him. But deep inside, Taemin feels like he's dying.
And that's when Minho intervenes.
“What's wrong?” He would ask.
“Nothing's wrong.” Came the casual reply.
“You can't lie to me, you know that.”
Taemin would then tell him, of course, he would cover some details and say it the pretty way. He would say that he's really stressed about school work. He would say that Haneul is learning how to walk and she's got him running all over the house, that his father is coming home late and he has to help him with the paperwork from the company, and that his mother has been busier and busier and he has to help her with the house chores. Taemin would tell him those pretty, little lies, but Minho didn't believe any of it. Because one day,
“I can't do this,” Taemin cried on Minho's shoulder. His mother was, yet again, fighting about his father being irresponsible and according to her it's somehow Taemin's fault. To be honest, Taemin doesn't know why he's part of the verbal fight; it's not his fault that his father is an irresponsible jerk. Minho ended up picking Taemin up from his house and they were now in Minho's.
“What do you mean, of course you can.” Minho assured him, he's always in the positive side. Minho also hates seeing his boyfriend all sad like this.
“Maybe I can, but I don't want to.” The tone in Taemin's voice was a mix of sadness and determination. It kind of scared Minho to hear it.
“Don't say that, Tae. What about Hannie? She doesn't like to see her big brother all sad like this.” Minho brought Taemin's sister in the conversation, knowing very well that Taemin loves her to death, he cannot let her behind.
Taemin just closed his eyes, crying so much left him exhausted and right know, he doesn't want to think about his little sister.
That day Taemin stayed in Minho's house for the night. He knows very well that when he comes back home, the fights will be even worse. But he doesn't care; he needs some time away to clear his mind.
Another day, another fight. But this time it was on his way home.
“You have to stop hanging out with him.” Taemin's mother said with a stern voice.
He was looking by the window and he didn't spare a glance at his mother. “With who?”
“You know who. That thief, Kim Jonghyun is it?” She said it so casually; it made Taemin sick.
“Thief?” Taemin couldn't believe his ears.
“He is a thief! He doesn't deserve anything that he has; he's a delinquent and he deserves to rot in hell.”
Taemin couldn't stand it. Hearing his mother constantly bad mouthing his childhood best friend. She seemed to forget that she loved that little boy as if he was her own son.
These fights got to the point of his mother yelling and to his sudden, yet firm request of her stopping the car.
“Where do you think you're going?!”
“Fuck off!”
-
“M-Minho?” His voice was quiet.
