Chapter Six

I got up the next morning to prepare myself for a photo shoot and an interview in the afternoon. I left my phone on silent inside my bag the whole morning so when I checked it after my shoot I had at least 15 missed calls from Luke and even some from the other boys. I began my interview at 6 pm and of course I was asked about my relationship with Luke

"So how's the boyfriend doing Josie?" The host asked

"We're going great I couldn't be happier," I answered with the best fake smile I could make

I got home and didn't even touch my phone. That was my routine for days now. Kate didn't bother me with fake dates for a while because our relationship was still the talk of the town thanks to pictures from the red carpet at the vmas. I almost went a week without talking to him but of course Kate just had to get us together for a late night talk show. I was sat in my dressing room and curling my hair because I was never into getting my hair done by professionals when Luke walked in slamming the door behind him

"Josie tell me what's up okay I can't handle this," Luke blurted out standing right in front of me. I tried ignoring him and focused on my hair.

"You can't just ignore me forever, I don't know what I did wrong but the least you could do is tell me why you're so mad at me," he said in frustration

"Calum told me that you saw me with that girl that night if you're jealous then I-" he began to say

"I'm jealous?! We're not even really dating Luke I don't care whoever the hell you do it just leave me alone," I spat

"Luke, Josie it's show time!" The producer said walking into the dressing room. We both walked out waiting for our names to be announced by the host Jimmy Fallon

"Here tonight we have the music industry's cutest love couple Josie Castano and Luke Hemmings!" Jimmy yelled. I grabbed Luke's hand which was still tense from our argument and we walked onto stage receiving a roar from the crowd

"Look at these young lovebirds you can just feel the chemistry in the air!" Jimmy said giving both of us a hug

"So tonight we're gonna get to know about the both of you, how you met, how's it going, how you fell in love," Jimmy said using a sing song voice

"Aw I just love the story of how we met, Josie baby why don't you tell them?" Luke asked purposely putting me on the spot

"I remember that day very vividly actually. Calum Hood actually spilled my coffee on me and he happened to be there with him so that's how it all began," I smiled

"Sounds romantic, burning coffee led you two together," Jimmy joked

"Now describe each other in 5 words," Jimmy said

"Josie would be beautiful, uh talented, sarcastic, and definitely very witty," Luke said

"Well Luke would be tall, handsome, Australian, sweet, and so faithful, isn't that right Lukey wookey," I said holding his chin in my hands to tease him

"Aw that's adorable, now for our last question of tonight. This is gonna get a little personal folks. Are you two in loooove?" Jimmy sang

"More in love than anyone could ever be," I smiled placing a hand on Luke's knee. We ended the interview and once those doors closed I tried to distance myself away from Luke as much as I could. I got home and plopped down on my bed still wearing my dress from tonight when I heard someone banging on my door

"Josie we're going to talk about this!" Luke yelled. I unlocked the door and he entered slamming it behind him. I sat down on my couch and turned my tv on

"Why the hell are you mad at me Josie? You said it yourself that you weren't jealous and we're not even dating!" Luke yelled fuming

"Why did you kiss me then?" I asked

"I- I just. It was just in the moment. I didn't mean it," Luke stammered

"If you didn't mean it then why are you here yelling at me for not talking to you? It wasn't in the contract that we had to be friends, we just have to date in public," I said coldly focusing on the tv because if I saw him I would've broken

"What about before? We were friends, all of us were friends. I could tell you everything then you go and ignore me," Luke breathed lowering his voice

"It's not in the contract," I said

"Josie look at me dammit!" He yelled. My eyes slowly faltered to his now deep blue eyes

"What's with you and the fucking contract who cares?! I miss you as my friend. We've been together everyday for the past month you can't just act like it was nothing," He said

"It was nothing Luke. It was all for the camera. Just go alright? We'll be together for fake dates then when the three months are up we'll never have to see each other again," I spat standing up to walk into my bedroom

"Josie you don't get it!" Luke yelled grabbing my arm to stop me. Right in that moment everything turned off. All my lights, my tv, it was pitch black

"A blackout that's just fucking great," I muttered pulling my hand away from his, but his grip only tightened

"Let go, Luke," I said

"Josie, please don't," he said quietly

"This isn't the fucking time Luke just go back to your hotel," I said pulling my hand completely away

"I'm afraid of the dark," he blurted out. I could hear his breathing start to get louder. Was he hyperventilating? I heard a bump on the wall as Luke was feeling around the room to see where he was

"Luke? Luke, calm down okay just breath," I said instantly forgetting about everything and wanting to just focus on him and his well being. I found his body and he instantly wrapped his arms around my neck like a safety blanket and I could feel his heart racing

"I'm right here okay? We're going to go to my room alright just keep breathing for me," I said trying to calm him down as I felt the walls for my bed room. He kept a right grip around my waist as I led him down my hallway. I found my bed and let him sit down.

"Just relax babe you're doing fine," I reassured him rubbing his back. He was able to steady his breathing and he rested his hand on my thigh next to him as if to make sure that I was there

"Can I- can I stay here until the lights come back on please?" He whispered. I could tell that he hated being seen this way but he wouldn't dare go back into the dark alone

"Yeah just calm down for me please I don't know what I'd do if you actually had an anxiety attack," I said. I positioned myself laying down on my bed and he did the same on the other side. We were laying under the sheets in the dark in silence until he decided to speak up

"Josie?" Luke asked

"Hm?" I hummed

"I'm sorry for yelling at you," he said quietly

"It's okay," I whispered

"Are you still mad at me?" He asked like an innocent child

"No"
