Hong Yu was late.

But what can he do if his morning work at the library was so far away from his afternoon job at the little family restaurant? Well, at least the public swimming pool, where he works on weekends as a life guard, is close to his home, so there's no need to cross half the city with his old yellow bicycle, that almost falls apart whenever he tries to go a little bit faster.

However, even if it was a little shabby, Hong Yu really liked this bicycle of his. The bike has accompanied him for so long, the first thing he bought with his own money and effort, how could he not cherish it.

Back to the problem, Hong Yu is currently late for his job at the restaurant, which will definitely lead to his boss getting angry and even more strict with him than usual.

He sighed faintly, but soon recovered his spirits. Since there's nothing else to do unless keep going, let's not get too agitated. After all, it's such a beautiful day today. Clear blue sky, no clouds on sight. With this kind of weather, how could anyone be grumpy?

With a lighter mood, Hong Yu proceed on his daily routine of eating a snack while riding the bike, for there's no time for him to have appropriate lunch. Immersed in the traffic catastrophic symphony, he could finally see the familiar two-floors building smashed against two skyscrapers.

While slowing down, he passed his left leg to the right side of the bike, ready to get down and quickly enter the restaurant. However, before he could even step inside the small building, Hong Yu get a glimpse of a frightful sight.

Just on the other side of the street, a little girl, wearing a tidy school uniform and a red backpack, was absent-mindedly crossing the road, unaware of the danger lurking near. From around the corner, a truck coming in full speed.

There was no time to think. Hong Yu's body moved on its own, forcing his feet against the ground, boosting himself towards the little girl. His heart relax for a quick second when he managed to push the child to the sidewalk, but, just as relief bathed him, there was a bright light and an abrupt break and the smell of burnt car tire. A hard surface against him, a brief unbearable pain and then darkness.

As the coldness slowly devoured him, Hong Yu's heart held a faint regret. In the end, his dream to become a teacher didn't come true. His last breath also had a twinge of sadness, for he'll no longer be able to pay respects before his old professor's grave. Remembering the kind grandpa with gentle eyes and grey hair, the one who helped him after his parents' death and all the distress that came with it, Hong Yu thought that, maybe, he will be able to properly pay his respects in the after-life.

However, even with some griefs, as his soul left its cold shell, Hong Yu's body carried a faint smile. Maybe he didn't become a teaching reference for the young generation, but he knew he had made a great difference in that little girl's life. Not sure if it was because of all of the things he had gone through, but Hong Yu, although with a friendly and soft personality, had a really strong mindset. For the things he has no control over, he will not let them affect him too much.

Little girl, make sure to become a wonderful woman someday, alright?

Long lashes fluttered like delicate butterflies as he closed his eyes.

{*bing* Yawhhh! Ow, that was a dawn good nap.}

A lazy boyish voice resounded inside Hong Yu's consciousness.

[*bing* We've been sleeping for thousands of years. Calling it a 'nap' is incoherent.]

Another voice inside his head, the kind you'd expect to hear from a cold and mature businesswoman.
