Description:

Every decade an animalistic figure emerges from the shadows to claim his bride, he searches the earth for the breath of fresh air that is his mate. Rituals are performed in every pack, pack members offer their young women as a sacrifice to keep the peace within their home. As word gets out that the Alpha is roaming nearby in search of his soulmate the rituals begin.

Monica Garcia is one of many twenty-year-old women being offered to the Alpha, she doesn't believe that she could ever be chosen, it's highly unlikely however when she is stolen within the night she soon realizes that she is the Alphas' mate.

Her mundane life was soon to change, for the better or for the worst.

Chapter One:

I can't breathe. Snow piles on top of me flake by flake as I squirm helplessly, I want to scream and lift myself from the white daggers stabbing into every inch of my body. However I know that I have to finish the ritual, it's key when it comes to protecting my pack and soon it will be over. I begin to drown in the white waves as more plummeted onto my body and soon I feel myself relax.

Moments later I feel a hand grip the back of my head, it pulls me up from the cold and into the warmth of a fire. I finally take a deep breath of the frosty air fulfilling what my body ached for minutes. Swarms of people surround me, wrapping me in blankets and blessing me for my brave sacrifice. Stumbling to a nearby bench, I see the next sacrifice step up dressed in all white, like me and smile to the crowd unaware of the agony she will soon go through.

"Monica!" My best friend Amy says charging at me with open arms and squeezes me so tightly that my numb body began to feel again. She'd been a part of the sacrifice the previous day and although she was still a little sick from the cold she crawled out of bed to see me.  Amy is all I have, I was abandoned within the pack and raised by Alpha Kurt who isn't Father material, he can be aggressive.

"You need to sit closer to the fire, you're going to pass out." She says urging me closer to the fire.

I watch over the second girl as she freezes beneath the snow and her audience cheers and chants to complete the sacrifice, the giveaway to the Alpha. "This is torture," I mumble, gaining a look from Amy telling me to watch my mouth in public if anyone heard me disrespecting the sacrifice or the Alpha I would be executed.

The sky darkens as more young women go through the agony of a sacrifice and I sigh, wishing that this villian wasn't so evil, making women go through this pain for his own satisfaction. The moon shines directly on the last girl, she's pale with long brunette hair that falls over her white dress, she is the sort of girl that looks as if she would be chosen, she's always been perfect within the pack.

"I'm going to go to bed, I can't watch this," I say rising from the bench and heading back to my room within Alpha Kurt's house. "I'll come with you," Amy says following me from behind.

I head towards the house, the biggest within the pack grounds and barge straight through the door, for a second I could have sworn I heard my bed calling my name. I pass Alpha Kurt and keep my eyes glued to the floor, "Monica, I'm glad to I've seen you before tonight." Alpha Kurt says, me and Amy holt in confusion.

"What's happening tonight, Alpha?" Amy asks just as puzzled as me.

"The legend is upon us, he is so nearby that he will be able to steal his mate tonight if she is from our pack that is." Alpha Kurt says which send shivers down my spine. "The chance of us being mated to that beast is, impossible, there's nothing to worry about." I lie but then receive a death glare from Kurt for referring to the Alpha of Alphas as a beast.

"One in a million," Amy says reassuring herself.

"I suggest you ladies get some sleep, I hope I see you in the morning." Alpha Kurt mocks which makes me sigh in disbelief that he's joking about such things, ugh Alphas!

"I better be off, stay safe," Amy says, then hugs me and finally leaves giving me a smile.

"Ah, actually, Monica, I would like you to join me for dinner before tonight." He says which only worries me more, he had his heart set on me being stolen, did he want me to leave?

I sit at the end of a large table and Alpha Kurt takes a seat on the other side, maids soon bring in our food and we sit in silence and then begin to eat. I break the silence by accidentally dropping my knife onto the floor, I instantly regret it. "Clumsy girl." He says smashing his cutlery onto the table causing me to let out a deafening welp.

"I'm surprised you haven't gone rogue yet Monica, it would give me an excuse to kill you and put down your clumsy nature." He chuckles digging into his dinner again.

I want to cry. I want to be anywhere else but here.

"You need to learn your manners." He says quietly.

"Pick it up, pick it up!" He repeats yelling from the other end of the table, causing me to cry and cry and cry until I can't squeeze out another tear.

"You're weak." He states through gritted teeth.

The room fell silent again.

"Get out of my sight." Alpha Kurt finally says and I return to my room.
