Heavy panting and the crushing of leaves under his feet were all he could hear.

"(Y/N)!" Legolas called.

No answer.

His legs kept up his inhumanly pace, his heart not giving them a chance to falter. Suddenly, the clanging of metal could be heard. It had to be swords. She must be in a fight with some orcs, he thought. Legolas made an effort to run faster but it didn't last long. He halted as soon as he could no longer hear the clanging.

"No..." he whispered with a lump in his throat. He could sense he was close and glided across the forest floor to an opening where he found a pool of blood on the ground surrounding a body he knew all too well. Her back was to him and all he could see was her (H/C) stained a deep red by the blood. There was no sign of breathing. Tears threatened to fall from his eyes, blurring his vision.

Legolas raced over to (Y/N) and turned her body so he could see her face. Her pale complexion was a ghostly shade and her (E/C) eyes held no light. Nothing in her face resembled the lively and caring elleth she was. It just couldn't be her.

Legolas pulled her in tightly to his chest and sobbed, feeling his heart break into a million pieces. He dared not look into her cold eyes for it was not her anymore; he only wanted to remember (Y/N) the way she really was. He couldn't believe his elleth who could fight off a pack of orcs on her own had fallen to a measly few. The worst part was that he thought it was him who failed because he wasn't there to protect her; the one duty he truly took pride in because he loved her so deeply.

Unexpectedly, Legolas could feel her being pulled away from him, so he unburied his face and glanced up with his brows furrowed in confusion. "(Y/N)!" he yelled desperately trying to grab hold of her. Some unearthly force was pulling her away from him.

Legolas felt as though he was being sucked away from life itself until he sprang up from his sleeping position with a gasp. He was sweating and very disoriented. His heart was pounding so heavily he could hear it as panic took over his entire body. His eyes quickly darted about his dark bed chambers, searching for the forest setting he was just in. Legolas quickly realized it was just a dream and a horrible one at that. The only thing that was circulating in his mind was her. He had to make sure she was all right.

He jumped out of bed and hurried along the corridor to her bed chambers. He quietly opened her door and slipped in. He tiptoed to her bed to the side where the was lying. She was facing him with her lids shut and her face displaying complete contentment. He crouched down next to the bed and watched her peacefully sleep, reassuring himself that his elleth was safe and no harm had come to her. He reached a hand out to push a stray hair away from her gorgeous face so he could see it properly. As he did, her eyelids fluttered open and she saw the disheveled prince before her. Confused and worried for him, she sat up and whispered, "Legolas? Wh-what are you doing here?"

"I had to see you, (Y/N). I uh, I just had a bad dream that's all," he replied.

(Y/N) cupped his cheek and placed a kiss on his forehead. "I'm sorry meleth nin. To know the good dreams we must also endure the bad."

He smiled at her kindness and wisdom. Silently, she shifted to the other side of the bed and lifted the sheets where she had just been laying. Legolas instantly knew what to do and crawled in next to her, wrapping his arms around her. He lay with his head on her chest, listening to her heartbeat as she ran her fingers through his hair knowing it would calm him. Within minutes Legolas was asleep and (Y/N) kissed his forehead, "Goodnight my prince."
