Demi

"Hey babe."

Jessica said excitedly as she hopped in the passenger seat when I picked her up at the airport.

"Sounds like someone had fun."

I couldn't help but chuckle at the burst of energy she brought with her in the car.

"Well you wouldn't know would you? You never called."

She looked over at me. Let's just say, I'm thankful looks can't kill.

"I sent a text and you didn't respond."

I said calmly, knowing how quickly she could get angry if I didn't choose my words wisely.

"That's only because there was nothing to respond to."

She matched my tone and gave a sarcastic smile.

"OK... I'm  sorry I haven't called. I just needed some time to sort myself out OK?"

I could feel her anger being replaced by concern as she placed her hand over mine on the gearstick.

"You're OK now right?"

"Yeah... I'm fine. Don't worry about it."

We continued to her house in silence, which I found odd since she just returned from a trip.

"Penny for your thoughts?"

Seems I interrupted her daydreaming.

"Hmmm?"

"I said what are you thinking about?"

"Dancing."

"What about it?"

"I think I want to open a studio, I was just wondering if it should be here or New York."

"Open a studio? When did this come about?"

"Over the weekend. It was so thrilling to see all the faces of the kids as we went through the routine. How they would light up you know? How they would just forget for the time that we were together. I've only gotten one taste of it and I'm already addicted. I'm just wondering how I never got into it before now."

I couldn't help but smile at her enthusiasm. How she would light up every time she discussed anything relating to dance.

"Sounds like something you're really passionate about, the studio I mean"

"I am. Uuh.... So what about you?"

"What about me?"

I gripped the steering wheel nervously as I turned unto her street.

"What have you been doing over the weekend? Since you were too busy to call up your girlfriend and all."

She accentuated her question by resting her chin on her hand and looking over at me expectantly.

"A little bit of this. A little bit of that."

"Sounds interesting. And how's not so handy Manny?"

"He's umm good. He's breathing so that's good. I mean breathing is always good right? Why'd you ask?"

I rambled nervously, praying that Marissa didn't tell her what she saw but to my relief she remained pretty chill about everything.

"Oh nothing. You just said you haven't spoken in a while so...."

Her voice trailed off as she made her way to the front door and I went to the trunk for her things.

"So are you staying the night or do you have to be somewhere?"
