“That’s fine, I’m glad you’re calling me. Is it about Harry and Monica?” He asked.
“Yeah, how did you know? Is Harry as bad as Monica is?” I asked concerned. Monica was really not in a good place, but at least she was good at hiding her feelings after all the years of stalking One Direction I knew that Harry didn’t have the same talent.
“I think he might be worse. The only thing he listens to are sad love songs and he just mopes around wherever he is. There is nothing we can do or say to cheer him up. The only time he pulls himself together is at the concerts, but that’s just because he don’t want to let the fans down,” he said and sounded worried.
“Sounds familiar, except the concert part. I’m getting sick of all the sad love songs. I have nothing, the glee version is a big hit now a day,” I told him. We both started listing up the sad love songs we both had listen to for a while now because of our heartbroken friends.
“Harry’s big hit is Somebody I used to know,” Niall said.
“Oh, I forgot that one! She listens to it at least once a day,” I said and laughed a bit.
“So she is doing really badly?” He asked and the conversation got serious again.
“Yes, I’m really concerned. I know she’s a smart girl, but she is in denial and doesn’t admit anything. And everything is getting worse. Most weekends she gets drunk and doesn’t even come home until morning. I have no idea who she is with or what she does, even though I can imagine,” I said and thought of all the times I tried to talk to her. To make her see her own good, to shove some common sense in her brain, but she refused to listen. She didn’t think it was a problem, and that it was her decision who she was with and what she did. I was about to start to tell him about all the drinking, but my voice trailed off as I saw the door to Monica’s room opened.
I met her eyes and she looked curious at me. Her eyes usually had a shade of green in them, but right now they were only grey, not even a hint of green in them. A red line followed the shape of her eyes. Probably caused by millions of tears that she denied. She was just a shade of her old self. The face that usually was filled by humor or some other emotion, was now just sad, nothing but sad.
Her body looked better than ever though, because to keep her brain from thinking of Harry she worked out every day, and buried her self in school and even cleaning. The last part was kind of positive, that meant less cleaning for me, but the reason why she did it was not positive.
We had known each other for ages, and I had never ever seen her like this. I had seen her sad before, but this was deeper and it only got worse by trying to hide it.
This was the part of our lives we had been looking forward to. Living together in an apartment without our parents, with no rules, but all of that was gone. Our apartment was just a silent little place where all the happiness had been driven away. She asked me who I was talking to, and I answered my mum. If I told the truth I didn’t know what she would do. Probably kill me or something. She looked at me like she knew I lied, but I could see that she decided not to care. She turned around and went in her room again. As the door shut I got out of my little bubble of thought and discovered that Niall was talking.
“Um, sorry I didn’t quite catch that last part,” I excused myself. This happened to me a lot.
“I was just saying that I don’t have the count of how many girls harry has been with since she left. He is out of control, and it won’t take long until we all get in some serious problems because of his recklessness. I almost think he’s about to develop a drinking problem,” He said.
“She is as well, she’s trying to drink away all her problems, and feelings. I have no idea where it’s going to end. And now to the real reason I called, this has all been really bad, but yesterday she took it to a new level. She ended up in the hospital because of all the alcohol and I had to go get her in the middle of the night. She almost died of alcohol poisoning, she was unconscious and the doctors were lucky to wake her up. The worst thing is that she doesn’t even pretend to care. She doesn’t think it’s a big deal. We used to talk about everything, but she shuts me out and I have no idea how to get to her,” I said and felt my voice was starting to shake. The thought of loosing her was unbearable.
“Is she trying to kill herself?” Niall asked shocked. I could easily picture his face expression.
“No, or at least I don’t think so, you never know what goes through that girl’s mind these days. I think she’s just testing some boundaries, to see how far she can push herself. I know she’d never try to kill herself, but when she can’t accept that she’s hurting she can’t move on,” I explained.
I could hear Niall take deep breath.
“We have to do something,” he said with a determined voice.
“I know,” I said.
