Eleven and Mike Wheeler never said goodbye to each other.

When he had to go home after spending the day at her cabin, he'd say "See you soon", or "Until next time, Angel." (It took him a while to come up with a nickname for her, but he realized that El was in the word Angel and started calling her that, which she just loved with her whole soul)

When she went on a two-weeks trip with Hopper to see her mama and spend some quality time with her pops, the two didn't say goodbye.

When they said 'I love you' for the first time, holding hands, sitting on their fort in Mike's basement as she rested her head on his shoulder, and Karen told El it was time to go, she didn't say goodbye. She said "I love you."

When Mike had to leave for college, the two held onto each other as if their lives depended of it, giving each other one last sweet kiss before saying "I'll miss you."

The only time one of them said goodbye was right before El disappeared into the thin air, looking at him as she prepared herself to die and leave her newly found family behind.

But the last time one of them did was at age 83.

That fateful night she knew that once she fell asleep, she'd never wake up.

On the bright side, she would see her pops, moms, as she called Joyce, Nancy, Jonathan, Steve and Dustin after they all left them.

She had been feeling every time worse for the past month, sometimes waking up in the middle of the night having trouble to breath, throwing up at least once every two days and sometimes feeling her knees go weak just by standing up.

But today, it had gotten worse.

El had thrown up at least four times before Mike arrived from their daughter's new house, and couldn't even leave her bed.

So when Mike came home, greeting her with a sweet kiss on the lips before laying down next to her on bed, she knew it was time to say goodbye for the last time.

"Mike, can you tell me the story of how we met?"

He nodded as he made himself comfortable under the sheets, pulling her closer to him and placing her head on his chest as he played with her gray hair. "There was this little kid named Will Byers, who went missing on November 6, 1983. His friends Lucas, Dustin and the handsomest, coolest of them all, Mike, went out to find him the next day."

And even though it hurt her, she couldn't stop herself from giggling.

"And instead of finding their old friend, they found a new one. She was scared, but oh, so beautiful under the rain. She had no hair, which only managed to concern Mike more. He took her home and took care of her for a whole week as she saved them with her amazing powers, trying to bring Will home."

El closed her eyes, enjoying Mike's contact with her. "She saved them all, but disappeared afterwards. She was a hero."

El smiled to that. "But left Mike behind, for 353 painful days in which he kept on calling, never losing hope. And it was the right thing to do, because she was back and all the pain he had gone through got erased once he saw her walk through that door."

She nodded as she had felt the same once she saw him smile at her the way he did. "And she saved them again. And then another time some months after that. And another, and she was the best hero to have ever been created." He kissed her head lightly. "And Mike and our beloved angel were happy, finally the happiest they had ever been because they had each other and they were safe. They went out on dates, on trips, had their fights, like any other couple, but their love was stronger than anything else. They got married, had a beautiful girl and a boy, and their love only seemed to grow bigger with every second they spent next to each other. They were the other's home, savior, and soulmate."

"That's my favorite story."

"Mine too, angel."

"You know I'll always love you, right? There is nothing, absolutely anything, that will ever make me stop loving you."

"And I'll love you forever too. Not even death can bring us apart."

She felt her chest hurt because of his choice of words, but smile either way. "Yeah, not even that."

Mike yawned, startling Eleven a little. "I'm so tired Angel, mind if we continue talking tomorrow?"

Eleven shook her head and rolled to her side, facing Mike's face.

He smiled at her before leaning to her and kissing her, which she returned trying to express all of her undying love for him. "I love you Mike."

"And I love you, El." He smiled one last time as he put his arms around her and she placed her head on his chest as he put his chin on top of her head before drifting to sleep, closing his eyes and falling asleep immediately.

Once she heard him snore, she passed her fingers along his face, taking in every single beautiful detail. "Goodbye Mike."

And with that she fell asleep, to never wake up, leaving the love of her life behind once for all, at last, with death finally pulling them apart.

And Mike's Angel was now in heaven, waiting for him to come home.

To come to her.

K so this was really, really short, but it just suddenly hits me that in the universe in which Mike and El are real ( :,( ), they will actually die someday and there is no way to stop that and it's just so sad to think about it, and if you think about it, El is most likely to be the one who dies first because of the nosebleeds and that stuff.
