Scroll felt a big weight off his shoulder, as he took off after them. "How far is the fly?" He asked. 10-minute fly, 7-minute vine... the Rainwing thought but did not say. Scroll could see he and his friend were pushing himself to go fast. Scroll saw little cottages getting closer, some had smoke rising from them, others had towers with hammocks attached. He's never been this close to Rainwing society, nor did he ever think he would need to be. The Rainwing pointed to one of the more square buildings and started to lower himself towards it. They could see two red dragons which looked like skywings from far away, but with a closer look, they were just rainwings blinking green and red. "Smart!" Scroll said but the wind took his voice away. Scroll landed and noticed that the two red dragons which were turning green where not the same dragons as before. They both had containers strapped to there back and one of the rainwings that went vine swinging ran out the door with another one. For you. His mind said before he could. Scroll hopped up to his hind legs and put on the straps then leaped off the ground. Both the rainwings with the containers were flying this time.
They did not go any hired then the tree line, but the lake was able to be seen after a short time. All three of them carefully landed and took off the harness. All together, they filled the buckets up and grasped them with all their talons as they fly higher over the trees. Gator was jumping red blue and Scroll pointed to her. Both the rainwings speed up and so did he. The closer he got, the more he was able to see that the Nightwing laying on the ground. All the vines were cut off but he still had deep red blood all over him. Scroll was behind the rainwings so he could see that they both turned pale blue quickly.
Once they landed, one of the Rainwings opened a pouch on his side and handed all of them towels. He rubbed his eyes and looked at the Nightwing with shock. His scales went white with spots of blue. It was wired. None of them were talking. Scroll couldn't even hear the thought going on in the Rainwings heads. All he could do was focus on his work. He dipped the towel into the water and gently rubbed it around we're the deep, black cut was. Gator did the same but was working on cleaning his face/chest. The second Rainwing, which was another male, was using a smaller cup to scoop up water and pour it over the Nightwings side.
Scroll could see his talons were shaking and so was his breath. Gator looked as if she was about to get sick, and the other Rainwing had no emotion except for white scales. It was quick, but it felt like forever when all the blood was wiped up from his right side, now it was time to turn him so they could see the left side. "Wait," Scroll said as they got ready to turn him. "We can't." He said scared.
"Why? Said the other Rainwing." Scroll pointed to the cut and the Rainwing flipped. He didn't see it before and obviously didn't want to. "We gotta get him to the hospital. They will have cactus there." The Rainwing then washed himself off and looked at the unconscious rainwing.
Scroll washed himself off too. Then he lifted his wings. "There's three of us here, I think if we take our time, we can carry him." The Rainwing was staring at the underneath part of Scrolls wings and then nodded. Scroll then grabbed the dragon's side trying not to dig his talons into his scales. In sync, Gator and the other Rainwing took his arms and they all managed to get their balance. "Ok let's go." Scroll said as he started to go up like a helicopter. The rainwings did the same and they were on their way.
It took them approximately 20 minutes to get to the hospital, the landing was the hardest and they were afraid that they were going to hurt the Nightwing more. "You land first!" Scroll said to Gator.
"No, if we drop his head, then his head might hit the ground and-" Gator started until Scroll interrupted. "No, the wound is the worst part here."
"Actually, I think Gator is right. If you get his legs and wings down easily, then I can let go and then all we need to do is put his head down." The other rainwings color was still white, but Gators started to turn reddish.
"See!" She said annoyed. Scroll rolled his eyes and placed the nightwings legs down, and then spread out his wings and made sure his tail was out of the way. The no-named Rainwing let go and ran right into the building. 4 new rainwings the color of pale blue mixed with pale green. They had a stretcher and new blankets. Gator was finally able to get his head down. The doctors looked at him astonished and then went to work. They got him onto the stretcher and wrapped all his wounds except for the poisoned gash. They then cut up and piece of cloth the exact size of the gash and laid that over. They rushed through the doors. The Rainwing that helped them get there started to wipe down his claws of blood and then sat down looking up into the sky. The things I do... He thought. And then a picture of different rainwings all the color of pink appeared in Scrolls head. He shook his head and held his temples to hold back a headache until it disappeared. It looked like him, a female, and a just out of the hatchery dragonet.
"Hey." Scroll said as he walked over to him. "Thank you. Your help means a lot to me." The Rainwing looked up at him with a smile and almost a tear in his eyes
. "Thank you too." Finley. Some with respect.... The Rainwing then shut his eyes and moved into the sun his scales shifting to pink. "Oh, and you can call me Puffin. don't make fun of it..."
Scroll new from reading that a Puffin was a funny looking bird and he could see why people would make fun of it. "That's a cool name." He said and then Puffins mind went wild but he kept a straight face and his eyes closed.
"Thank you again."
