Imagine:
Mort Rainey is very sensitive to quick weather changes.
Thus, whenever there is a storm coming or a sudden rain is pouring from the sky, he suffers from dizziness, is very tired and now and then has heavy migraines which make it impossible for him to work.
Amy let Mort keep Chico because, whenever Mort has these problems happening, Chico would be there for him, to watch him, even if only with one eye.
And so, when another day comes when Mort walks down the wooden stairs, his fingertips massaging his temples, Chico would jump off his armchair and follow him, patiently waiting for Mort to take his painkillers.
And when Mort finally rests, laying on his couch with his brows creased and his glasses getting tossed on the couch table, Chico lays down right next to the couch, looking up to Mort and nudging his hand that is hanging down from the edge of the couch, making him understand that he won't leave his side until the storm is over.
Mort falls asleep with some little effort after he crawls Chico's head, his fingers still resting on the dog's fur as he drifted off to a calming nap.
Escaping the storm and pain and guarded by his friend.
