Suddenly, you heard footsteps nearby and were wide awake straight away. All your senses were sharp as glass immediately. Slowly, your hand wandered down to your knife. It was a habit of yours, since you had become a huntress. When the footsteps stopped close to you, you prepared yourself to attack, if necessary. But then you heard a deep dark chuckle and recognized the voice instantly.

"Bless my heart, it's me, Sephiroth."

"You ain't got one!", you returned to him dryly. Again, you could hear his typical chuckling that he spared especially for you.

"Beg your pardon." You could hear the sarcasm in his sentence. "Here, I wanted to hand this to you."

Confused, you stretched out your hand in the twilit and grabbed a soft and warm fabric, but you took your hand prompt slightly backwards, because your hands had touched, it was the first time that Sephiroth hadn't worn his gloves and you had felt his surprisingly warm skin.

"Erm, thanks. You didn't have to." Your voice revealed your nervousness, all thanks to the little touch.

"No problem. Good night, Diamond."

"Good night, Sir." You released your breath again, as he went away to his own sleeping ground. What was that... did he do that on purpose? Or had it been a coincidence that your hands had touched, maybe because of the dark? But now, you had to go to sleep again and to not overthink anything...

Location: Wastelands

Next morning, 5am

When the sun rose, you got up and put on your armour again – you had slept in your trousers and knitted- wool pullover. Then, the four of you had a short breakfast around the extinct campfire. After breaking up the camp, you all went to the meeting point near the village which was overtaken by some rebels.

It was your duty to observe the situation and to neutralize the subjects. To ensure that no one could flee, Angeal and Zack would undertake the responsibility of the west entrance of the secured village. Sephiroth and you had to secure the east entrance. The job of the infantrymen was to overlook the mission and to pass on information.

During the last minutes of dusk, you sneaked to the entrance. With sign language, the two of you communicated with each other. Creeping by noiselessly, you entered the village and secured the first steps. Then you hid between two houses and glanced around the corner of the crumbly wall.

The two of you fastened your steps and got deeper into the sleepy village. By now, you hadn't discovered any of the rebels. But within a minute, you spotted the first patrol unit. Sephiroth pointed to the next corner, where you could hide from them.

After a short time you glanced out of your hideout and pointed your mentor to follow you, silently. Carefully, you stepped out and quickly walked to the next corner of a house. Suddenly, you nearly stumbled right into a rebel, but with a very inhuman move, Sephiroth pulled you out of danger.

Your heart was beating fast and you were a little bit shocked. Normally, you would be more cautious. Thankfully, you looked up into Sephiroth's observing face, as he still stood in front of you to hide with you in the shadows. After a little while, he looked at you with an uninterpretable expression on his face. It was then, that you noticed the closeness between you to.

"Ummm..." You wanted to mention that baffling fact, but he gestured you to be silent. So you hold your breath for a little while, because short after his pointing, you had also heard the footsteps.

"I think it's safe now. Be more cautious." He demanded softly.

Again, you were dazed by his concern for you, you weren't used to it at all. It was the first time within this 6 months of your training, that he showed such emotions towards you.

"What's wrong with you? Are you sick?", you asked worriedly.

"It's not good for my reputation if you die on your first mission", he smiled flatly.

"Oh shut up you, idiot!", with a fluid move, you unwrapped yourself from his almost-hug, drew your new short katana and knocked out a guy who had just turned around the corner.

"Smooth", was the simple comment on your move from Sephiroth.

Suddenly, there was a big, nasty bang heard in the centre of the village. Sephiroth and you looked each other in the eyes and then didn't hesitated to get there. As you arrived, you spotted your comrades, they were fighting against five rebels. Immediately, you joined the fight and helped to neutralize the enemy. After a short but exhausting fight, the opponents where all knocked out or dead.

"I thought that there would be more... resistance against us... ", Zack mentioned.

"Me too", Sephiroth said thoughtful.

"Maybe we got an overrated report about their strength and numbers", you reflected.

Since the four of you had searched about three hours together with the infantrymen and hadn't found any other rebels, you aborted the searching mission. Maybe the surveillance team had made a mistake or maybe they had seen the arriving SOLDIER unit a few days ago.

But to ensure that there wasn't a hidden room or something similar, the commandant ordered a special team from Shinra. But this would take its time, so you discussed if it was necessary that all four of you stayed at the meeting point.

At the evening, it was decided that your mentor and you would fly back to Midgar early. So after you said your good byes to Zack and Angeal, you headed out.
