A Memory [Sephiroth x Reader]

Memory IV

Then, the collision wasn't preventable anymore and you closed your eyes and prepared yourself. But to your surprise, you only felt heat and fire on your back. Quickly, your eyes fluttered open and your whole body was floating close over the ground. Weakened, you landed and dropped down on the dusty earth. A greyish wing surrounded your whole body - right before it disappeared.

"What on earth...", you mumbled to yourself. Goosebumps and blank fear cooled your heated body down. Just before you could digest this strange occurrence, you heard your name being shouted.

"I'm here!", you called back. Carefully, you got onto your feet and knocked off the dust from your uniform. Nothing from the greyish wing and the strange feeling had remained. Suddenly you heard footsteps and the cracking of wood. You turned around and you met Sephiroth's worried eyes.

Wait a sec? Worried? You were puzzled, because of his visible emotion. But his facial expression turned back to his usual one, promptly.

"Are you all right, Diamond?", he asked, his voice betrayed his mien. You were in a turmoil of baffled feelings about what had happened to your body and about the rare concerns from your mentor.

"Umm, I think I am okay. It seems that I'm not injured or anything", you explained. But your mind wasn't that fine. Why had you had a wing on your left shoulder and why had it vanished immediately? What happened to you, your body?! Was it because of... the operation! Suddenly it made sense, because all weird things that had happened within the last 6 months of your new life, all were related to the operation.

"What's that?", Sephiroth unravelled you - out of your gloomy thoughts. Automatically, you wanted to take a step back, but he had already arrived right before you and reached over your head with his hand. As he pulled it back, he had a long greyish feather between his gloved fingers.

With an uninterpretable look on his face, he swirled it between his fingertips and then his cold gaze pierced your eyes. For a short moment, it felt as if the temperature had cooled down.

"Come, we should meet with Angeal and Zack. Our helicopter has landed and is save. But we have to get rid of the Hippogriff, otherwise we can't continue with our mission.", he changed the topic swiftly.

You followed your mentor through the dead woodland silently. Then, you reached a clearing of the trees and there stood the demolished helicopter. Angeal and Zack were fighting the nearby monster, but before you both could enter the stage, they had beaten it.

A little bit sad about that, you re-joined them at the starting helicopter and then it took off once again.

Two hours later, you finally arrived at the meeting point of the mission. Some of the infantryman had already awaited the four of you. Luckily, the mission would start tomorrow, so you all could rest for a while. Especially the two black-haired men, who had fought the Hippogriff.

The sundown set the surroundings in a golden and orange light, as you sat down next to Zack. You two had prepared a campfire and something warm to drink, because the nights could get chilly out in the Wastelands. Your mentors had a meeting with the commander of the deployed infantrymen. In your hands were a metal cup of steaming hot coffee and your eyes watched the setting sun, when Sephiroth and Angeal returned.

"Be prepared to sleep on the ground, you two." Angeal smiled soft and ruffled through Zack's hair as if he were his little boy. The two of you nodded.

With casual discussions and conversations, the time flew by and as the moon had arisen, all of you went to sleep. Muffled in your bedroll, you could feel the cold wind and temperature. But you were used to it anyway.
