"Don't worry, this is nothing compared to the wounds I got from the battlefields."
Just now you caught on what was going on around you again. An emergency doctor had entered the training room and kneeled down to observe the flesh wound. Still paralysed from this accident that should not had happened, you stepped a little bit backwards. But than your attention was drawn to the next person who entered the room.
"Amazing! It's perfect! No, more than that!", Dr. Hojo exclaimed, as he came closer.
"Dr. Hojo, please calm down! This is not the right place to speak about such things! And we don't even know if it was a success either."
Behind Hojo you could spot Lazard with a stern and a slightly angered expression visible on his face. He stopped the doctor and talked to him quietly. Then Lazard gestured you to come closer and follow him out of the room. Hojo followed you silently and your hackles raised in discomfort. You could barely suppress the wish to shudder. The three of you entered a small room besides the training room. Hojo pointed at the seat and without complaining you sat down on it.
"I will take a blood sample from you and control your pulse and other trivial information for my research. Then headmaster Deusericus, she is all yours for today."
It sounded like a bad omen to you. But sooner or later you would have to see the doctor again. After this short examination, the doc had finally deserted you with the headmaster.
"Don't blame yourself", he said emotionless. You knew what he referred to.
"It's the strength and power you got thanks to the operation. As you know already, Hojo had implanted some research findings into your body and the result was now visible to all of us. If I had to categorise your fighting skills and your physical strength, then you would be one of our best. But you have a long way to go before you can reach the standards of our heroes."
The motivation of yours had sunk to a very low point. Not only because of harming Zack, the only friend you had made in this short time at Shinra Corp. But also because you couldn't picture your way upwards in the ranks of SOLDIER.
"Come, I have one last task for you. Then you can rest if you want. Follow me please."
Sighing you followed your supervisor out of the little room. For a while both of you walked silently, then you remembered that he wanted to categorize you in a rank. So you cleared your throat and then you asked the question which had lain on the tip of your tongue for quite a while now.
"Sir, you said that you will categorise me."
"Certainly, I will. I can't do that now, because I haven't seen Hojos report yet, but it is clear to me that you should begin within the 2nd-class."
In surprise your mouth dropped open, but you recollected yourself quickly. Before you could say anything, Lazard entered a room, it was similar to the room above the training room 3. You could hear the clashing of metal and some battle cries. But before the two of you reached the window, all of the sounds had stopped. After a short time, the automatic door opened and three tall men entered. The light conversation of the three stopped abruptly as soon as they noticed the two of you.
"Good evening Lazard! May I ask what brings you here?", a tall broad shouldered black-haired man asked. He had looked at you shortly.
"Business, as always Angeal", Lazard said. "You should visit your little cub. He was injured in his training a view minutes ago"
You couldn't manage to not glare at your supervisor, even though he didn't mentioned that it was your mistake that he had gotten injured in the training. Without another word, Angeal rushed out of the room. A scarcely audible chuckle came from the silver haired man. The third one, the redhead, seemed to not know what all the fuss was about. Apparently, it was the result of reading his book.
"Let me introduce you to the heroes of Shinra. All three of them are well known 1st-class SOLDIER. Sephiroth and Genisis Rhapsodos and the other one was Angeal, Zack's mentor."
"Why would you introduce us to... her?!", the redhead, Genesis, asked uninterested and bored.
You knew straightaway that you disliked him.
"Do you have business with me or can I go?" Furthermore, his language he used towards his supervisor wasn't appropriate. You could hear a sigh from Lazard beside you. He pointed to the door, unwilling to speak to Genesis again and so the said man left quietly.
"So, you needed me, obviously", Sephiroth said. It was a statement, not a question. The headmaster nodded.
"This is Diamond, she may become as strong as the others and you are. But for that, she needs someone to guide her. Her power needs order, control and someone who can handle her, if she gets overwhelmed by it. I can't imagine Genesis as a good mentor for her, and Angeal has his hands full with Zack. The other 1st-class's aren't fit for this job. But you are. I know you do not want a disciple, but this is an exceptional case."
Silently, you had listened to them. It was not your turn to say anything. This was absolutely something you hadn't any influence on. So you just stood there and watched them. And then the adjudgment was set. Sephiroth would become your mentor.
